@Robert__Rennie Looking at iron ore loading patterns at export ports (BRA/AUS) with vessels destined for China, Q1 for the past four years is significantly below the annual rolling average. That pattern is hard to see in these Chinese inventory data.. Is CH commodity stock data reliable?
🗺️ - Are geopolitical tensions reshaping global FDI flows?
• Flows between US and China are dropping fast, while US investments to Americas and Europe are growing
• Flows to/from China are plummeting; China is less attractive as a destination and focusing more inwards

Cost competitiveness of oil: "Bio-alternatives are at least twice the cost of oil products, and synthetic fuels manufactured from hydrogen can be up to eight times more expensive." Note EV's are increasingly in the money. Disclosure: I helped build the chart.
@Peter__Wood Estimated power loss from compressor is also very likely to depend on your choice of electrolyser technology - ie. pressurised alkaline electrolysis provides the initial (and costly) +30 bar pressure without the stated compression power costs
@Peter__Wood It looks like they assumed desalination water energy was per kg, rather than per m^3. A m3 should be ~3-5/kWh, and be good for 100kg of H2, which needs ~5,000 kWh. It's a fraction of a % overall.
🇪🇺 - EU will publish list of critical technologies today - a key step to kickstart Europe's de-risking efforts vis à vis China
• A short thread with graphs on why this list matters, what we can expect, and what's next for EU de-risking plans 👇🧵 [1/8]
The @EU_Commission just outlined the Sovereignty Fund it promised as Europe’s response to greentech subsidies from the US and China. They call it ‘STEP’: it isn’t a dedicated fund, has little fresh money, and redirects existing spending programs .🧵
The 1-10-20-30 rule of thumb for green H2: 1mln t/yr of H2 production capacity requires 10 GW of electrolysers powered by 20GW of solar and wind generation, which requires $30bln CAPEX '. NB 1mt/yr H2 is ~60kboe/d. Source: https://t.co/T28ZCqeCuv
Net Zero Industry Act: In view of the Competitiveness Council on Monday 22nd, the @EU_Commission has sent a non-paper to the Member States in order to clarify which technologies are covered by its proposal and the benefits they are entitled to https://t.co/eW40MaDevc

Breaking: Macron wants 1) a French IRA-like cleantech tax credit and 2) an "EU regulatory break".
Here is are my take-aways, from Macron's speech at the Elysée Palace, with a closer look at Europe and #CleantechEU.
Turkish President Erdogan and Ukrainian officials say an unprecedented wartime deal with Russia has been extended allowing grain to flow from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia where hunger is a growing threat. https://t.co/DawWS1VTsT
Financing (9/13):
- MS shall provide financial support to address
financing gaps such as (a) guarantees to decrease borrowing costs (b) off-take guarantees for tech made in Europe
- MS shall allocate at least XX% (still tbd)of national revenues from EU ETS allowances until 2030
One of the most significant tax credits in the historic climate bill is a massive tax credit to make clean hydrogen. The actual climate impact of the tax credit on emissions reductions, though, depends almost entirely on how the IRS & Treasury implement it.https://t.co/syAdZGt0gA
State aid is a powerful tool to help deliver our #Green transition. But you can’t build competitiveness out of subsidies.
