@Gaymer_moments@idk45584558@LewisWetzel148@longstorychort@mikitaposts You can't possibly begin to know the experience an Irish American had growing up. Who they were around, where they spent time, etc. That said, ethnicity is different than nationality. Just because you dont think it is, doesnt mean its a fact
Remember this when they try to act morally superior to you and when they claim to be for "human rights" @ISASaxonists Also block when you can't engage with pushback. This is the way of modern "academics"
When you come to realise the absolute nightmare of a disease this person is fighting, you will quicker understand why they are so angry with life. But bigotry and hate directed at a group of people will never be ok. Advocating for one marginalised people doesnt negate this hate
@TheSpongeImp@sbrig18@MoreOrLessAMess@Timstillherelol And that doesnt change the fact they are Irish in the ethnic sense. We've now come full circle back to our original disagreement. Thank you for the discussion. Take care of yourself
@TheSpongeImp@sbrig18@MoreOrLessAMess@Timstillherelol Youre trying to move the goalpost here. You said Irish Americans arent engaging with the culture, language, and people of Ireland because they live in the US, surrounded by Americans. Hence where my question came in.
@TheSpongeImp@sbrig18@MoreOrLessAMess@Timstillherelol Im going to avoid a semantic argument. Lets clarify. Interacting in this case means regular interaction to the point a relationship is being formed. Not a one off. So to reframe the question again, how do you know Americans dont have relationships with recent Irish immigrants?
Nationality is a legal classification. She may be ethnically Somalian, but shes still Irish. One can hold two cultural identities despite two distinct ethnicities
Why do (insert group) hate (insert group)?
Here's why:
List of things
Hope that clarifies why they are justified in their bigotry. Also call them racist if they disagree with these "facts" ๐ค
Why do the Irish hate Irish Americans?
Hereโs why;
You tell us youโre more Irish than us
You think Ireland is some sort of museum exhibit
You donโt understand the culture at all
But mostly because you weaponise our culture to fuel your racism
@ASL_Brothers1@sapphyreblayze I think your reading comprehension is lacking. Nowhere in my tweet did I say Irish Americans are more Irish than the Irish people. Let me say this more plainly. Saying "this is why we hate Irish Americans" is bigotry. Same thing as saying "this is why we hate Mexicans."
@TheSpongeImp@sbrig18@MoreOrLessAMess@Timstillherelol Youre making sweeping generalisations of Americans. How do you know Irish Americans arent interacting with recent Irish immigrants in their towns? Or have friendships with people in Ireland? Its 2026, you dont need to live in a country to engage with its culture.
@sapphyreblayze@ASL_Brothers1 I never said an Irish American is more Irish than an Irish person. Is gender identity a social construct? Is nationality a social construct? Yes to both. If self-identification is sufficient to establish gender identity then by parity it is sufficient to establish ethnic identity
@ASL_Brothers1 1. Dont gatekeep identity (havent you learned from the transphobes not to do this?). 2. Hating a people because of their identity is bigotry. 3. I advocate for more inclusive identity language. 4. Im not a yank. I was born and raised in England and now I live in the US.
@TheSpongeImp@sbrig18@MoreOrLessAMess@Timstillherelol How? If youre earnestly engaging with the culture, language, and people, and not claiming to be more African than those who live on the continent, I dont see whats wrong with it.
