I translate and write about Chinese #folklore, #mythology, #sci-fi, ghost stories and yaoguai art, especially the lesser-known ones.
Let’s explore the mysteries of the East together. 🌸👻

Some quick FAQs:
- How do I know the original source of a story/folklore, & what is ALT?
Due to Twitter's link and text length limitations, I mark the source and origin of stories in the image's ALT text instead of displaying them directly.
ALT text is a feature supported by Twitter that you can find in the lower-left corner of each image. If you see "See ALT" in my tweet, it means I’ve included detailed citation information for the original source of ancient texts or paintings there. Don't miss it out if you enjoy diving deeper into the full story.
Unfortunately, for some stories, I can only provide links to the authoritative Chinese original texts on ctext, not English sources, often because the book hasn’t been translated into English yet.
- I don’t want to miss out on those wonderful stories. Is there a subscription or something?
This account is approaching its one-year anniversary, and so far most tweets are unique. It might be hard to keep track of everything.
I periodically compile tweets with lots of retweets and valuable comments into the Highlights section for easy reference.
If you're on Bluesky, you can also follow me(https://t.co/DQbOXUFFPa) there where I repost older tweets.
Also, I’m working on a website to host these stories.
- Are there any books on Chinese folklores that you recommend?
I have translated my favourite Zhiguai books into English. They offer a glimpse of what typical Chinese mythology, ghost stories, and yaoguai tales look like.

In Search Of The Supernatural: https://t.co/kTaPDeEGgh
Zibuyu/What the Master Would Not Discuss: https://t.co/PKQ5RkgGXc
Most of them don't have other English translations. Please let me know if you find any mistakes while reading.
- Are there any tools/Chinese culture accounts that you recommend?

- Permissions for reposting on other platforms
It can vary depending on the content. Some tweets are translations of ancient texts, some are translated reposts from Chinese social media (where I usually cite the original source), and some are my own work. You may need to ask for permission on a case-by-case basis.

This account was initially created purely out of my personal interest, to share some of my favorite but often little-known ancient Chinese tales of the strange and supernatural. I never expected to meet so many interesting friends on this platform, who join me in exploring and discussing Chinese culture.
Thank you all for spreading the joy of reading and helping others discover new worlds beyond the mundane cycles of their everyday lives. This is also why the love, documentation, and retelling of folk stories continue in today's world. 👩🌾
