If there’s anything I’ve learnt from living in uk for almost 10years now, it is a simple but brutally painful truth.
And that truth is that if you were born in Nigeria and also lived in Nigeria from birth up to the age of 35years old, your age-mates who are in a developed country, are on average, already ahead of you in life by about 10-15years.
What they easily achieved at 25years old,
You may struggle to reach it by 40years old.
Just by being born in a third-world underdeveloped country and spending the most fruitful part of your youthful years in a backward country can seriously limit you in life and put you 10years behind your peers in a working and developed country.
I’ve seen this personally.
And because I have, it brings me to tears. This is why I’m always pushing and pushing that whatever we can do to fix Nigeria, please we have to do it.
There are talents all over the world.
There are brilliant people all over the world. But there are no equal opportunities all over the world.
The young 20year old Australian girl working in tech sales making 90,000 US dollars a year is NOT more intelligent than the 20year old Nigerian girl in Ikeja who is still struggling to sell Gala in traffic jam.
The only difference is:
One of them is in a working country with endless opportunities for its young people while the other one is in a country that has psychopath leaders whose daily fantasies is to strangle the youth and kill their dreams.
I say all of that to say:
Talent and brilliance is all over the world, from Calabar to California, from Owerri to Osaka, from Kano to Canada; however opportunities are not the same everywhere.
If we don’t work to fix Nigeria urgently,
Nigeria will eventually destroy all our lives.
