On July 23, I had the privilege of hosting Germany’s Chief of Defense and Political Director for a briefing on Germany’s historic, highly laudable new military strategy and program. This plan, coupled with Germany’s commitment to rapidly meet the 5% Hague pledge, will dramatically accelerate NATO 3.0 and strengthen the Alliance’s ability to achieve deterrence by denial. The reports reached us as we were in the middle of celebrating the naturalization of 14 decendants of holocaust survivors - families who decided to reclaim their German cititzenship and put their trust in the Germany we built over the last 75 years. It felt like a gut punch. 3/3

I was shocked to learn of reports that a bench in Miami Beach's Lummus park was defaced with Nazi symbols. Under German law, the use of such symbols, like the swastika, would be a criminal offense. 1/3

We have reached out to city leadership and leaders in the Jewish community to offer our support. First of all in repairing the damage, but also in reassuring the community that we will not tolerate acts of antisemitism and hate. 2/3
