In Graaf Reinet. 50 kms, 500-plus in total, a little more than B, altho he had the return journey to do, which I don't.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

Ending the day at sublime spot on Seacow River. B never came here. If he did, he wouldn't have left.

Farmer Van Zyl has no truck with alien invader, prosopis. it is cut down. His philosophy: if you are in the Karoo, you have to work.

After 400 kms or so with the Brak River for company, we are parting ways. It starts here and flows north to the Gariep.

@zakkizoo @Burchellride We'll make a map for you and provide directions to find the obelisk!

Richmond is famous as a book town. They have a copy of B's Travels in the interior, but too precious to sell.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

Until he met Van Zyl, B had met only Bushmen on the 3 weeks he had been on this trip.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

Van Zyl the terror of the locals then. We met a farmer Van Zyl too, a thoroughly nice man.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

Richmond. About 70 kms. Spent am at Rhenosterpoort from south. Found many of B's overnight spots. Also site he met first boer, Van Zyl.

I crossed one of those divides today. There they grow mutton, here they grow wool.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

People flood to the towns. One farmer I met leads a bachelor life. Wife and kids stay in town during the week.

[Kevin Davie @Burchellride]

One bushman village had 100 residents in B's day. Now there are huge valleys which probably have fewer than 50 residents.
