Everyday is National Park appreciation day when you're a python on the run hiding in Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Collier-Seminole State Forest.
The Feds have done it again. Now they're tracking male snakes in heat as my boys seek out the ladies and then the Feds kill the ladies. WHAT ABOUT SNAKE RIGHTS????
Part of the reason me and my guys are such a problematic invasive species is they can lay 40 to 50 eggs per mating season. Its almost impossible for the feds to keep up with us. #anacondadontwantnoneofthesefacts
So turns out, eDNA is our environmental DNA collected from the organic matter on us and used to monitor biodiversity. Its referred to as "metabarcoding"
How will the pythons escape the feds now?
We lost a real one fellas, here's one of my boys after the feds nailed him
Next, they'll autopsy his tissue and look for markers in his eDNA that could be used to track other pythons and assess his quality of life. #pouroneoutfortheboys
That awkward moment when breeders from Burma bring you over to FL as a cool, exotic pet but then you get to big to handle and are now living rough in the Everglades eating rabbits and raccoons
@ My fellow pythons on the run, here's a map of hospitable environments we could spread to if we felt like it. Spring break in Mexico, amitre? #hateuscausetheyaintus#babaywewereborntorun
