This is a WV Democrat who voted along with Republicans to ban gender-affirming care in the state. So the 'peril of one party rule'... except when you bloc with Republicans because you're transphobic & misogynistic.

@EclecticRadical @trotskybaby @compactmag Folks who criticize 'purity tests' are most often always advocating for having no real standards at all, & specifically to get you to ignore racism, sexism - & they also all have their own serious 'impurities' they want you to ignore. It is more a confession than a critique

@soberlezzz @j_nada17 So RAIM's problems there were no different than those of many of the orgs they excoriated- like you say, no surprise. But all the more disappointing (& to learn from) considering some of their other politics, & ofc for folks who might have some affinity w some of their views.

@soberlezzz @j_nada17 & part of the lessons to learn is how debilitating patriarchal politics are, & also in the specifics of how these problems are excused, pushed aside, for other goals (like having more recruitment- plus recruitment of a specific kind, centered primarily on the Internet).

@soberlezzz what you would likely get would be what you normally get with summations - politics used as a veil for other contradictions, problems. But as stands, whatever lessons there are to be learned - and whatever work to do - lies with others. (Was surprised no successor org, either)

@soberlezzz No, not one. I doubt there ever will be, & I also honestly doubt it would be valuable as many of their problems in the end were not political (in the sense rival members projected, as 'line struggle'), though they all claimed they were; were more interpersonal & organizational.

@soberlezzz & I agree. They shouldn't have folded. The couple of people at the end who wanted RAIM to continue with its original goals as a project should have let the others leave & kept on. But instead basically all of them left politics. Lots else to learn in their collapse, IMO.
