Burrard Strategy’s Mark Marissen spoke with the CBC’s Hillary Johnston about the most recent floor crossing from the Conservatives.
Here is the full interview.
Mark Marissen: "We used to have two brokerage parties, the Conservatives and the Liberals. Now have one brokerage party and that's the Liberal Party ... Pierre Poilievre is all about purity tests and Mark Carney is about the big tent."
Young politicos shifting into consulting could see fewer opportunities to build credibility because of AI, says Christian von Donat, a vice-president at Impact Public Affairs.

Mark Marissen: "It's very clear that Canadians are much more interested in Carney's approach. They want a positive solutions-oriented kind of government. Pierre Poilievre seems to be stuck in the politics of a couple of years ago, and he just can't get out of it."
Enjoying listening to Jason McDaniel, Interim President and CEO of ICBC, Mike Farnworth, BC Minister of Transportation & Transit and Kevin Quinn, CEO of TransLink this morning.
They’re speaking to the New West Chamber of Commerce talk about transportation and transit in New Westminster, which is at the geographic centre of the Lower Mainland.
He’s their strongest performer, no one seems to be challenging him, and while large swaths of the public don’t care for him, the party stalwarts are genuinely fond of him.
All of this means that it’s unlikely Poilievre is going anywhere any time soon.
He will try to survive as long as possible with the theory that an opening will come eventually.
The problem is that he needs Carney’s personal approval numbers to drop down to his level to get that opening.
It’s highly unlikely that things could level up the other way: moving Poilievre’s personal numbers up to Carney’s current numbers.
Poilievre would need to entertain a change in strategy to do that.
Which he is clearly refusing to do.
My agency (https://t.co/8Wcn3jHPjz) did the design for Zohran’s campaign.
While I wish I played a part, it was all the masterful work of my partners, Aneesh and Phil.
Having worked with these 2 for close to a decade, it’s no surprise they created what many consider (the most?) iconic political branding.
I’ve seen Aneesh go deep into the archives of typography and color theory, and Phil spend hours custom-building animations to bring a UI to life.
HYPED to see their work getting the credit it deserves.
Even though we have a minority government in Canada, it’s unlikely that the budget will be defeated, so don’t expect a snap election soon.
I explained this in more detail with the CBC’s Sarah Galashan.
Burrard Strategy's @marissenmark was featured as a commentator on CBC TV's coverage of Mark Carney's pre-budget speech this week.

Mark Carney’s speech last night demonstrated a shift in priorities from the previous Trudeau government.
I talked about this last night with Sarah Galashan on CBC NN.
Here’s a clip from that conversation.
