We put unnecessary pressure on ourselves in this part of the world. I know people who even borrow things just to attend owambe.

1. I’ve never bought aso-ebi in my life. What I do instead is send half of the aso-ebi money as a gift. One of my friends got married this January, the aso-ebi was ₦80k, and I sent her ₦100k. She didn’t complain; she truly appreciated it.

2. I don’t attend parties outside my base. I’ll simply send my transport money instead.

3. I’m a very private person. I don’t expect anyone to stress themselves over me if I’m celebrating anything either. 10-20 persons are more than okay for me.
