Foreign policy has two faces; one for the local population, and one for the actual global powers.

The public version is mostly a facade to ease people into decisions already made elsewhere.

For example, in Pakistan's case:
Actual foreign policy: MDA with KSA, and Trump BoP
Public version: Chief Negotiator for a Iranian peace deal

I have to say this because nobody else is willing to say it, either out of intellectual dishonesty, bravado or pleasing the bosses:

Pakistan must pull back from Afghanistan. Now!

If you think the war in Iran is a terrible idea, the one Pakistan is engaged right now in Afghanistan is equally worse and destructive for Pakistan and the regional at large.

The regime and its paid experts may not like to hear this, and it may hurt their sense of bravado, but Pakistan must pull itself out of the war in Afghanistan immediately.

It is a self-made trap that will consume Pakistan, and allow any hostile force to knock it off in a single blow.

Had our genuises read Sun Tzu beyond the cover, they’d have recognized the visible application of “Qi and Zheng” in what Pakistan is facing at the moment.

Zheng is a direct force that controls the attention to hold the enemy in place, while Qi is an indirect and surprise force that delivers a decisive blow.

Blinded by power, and Trump’s pat on the back, the regime in Pakistan has dangerously placed itself in a fragile position (Zheng), for any hostile power to deliver it a Qi. And there are plenty who are waiting for the moment.

Because we learnt nothing from 1971, we are making the same exact mistake all over again.
