I gave posting and commenting a few months of trial and decided it’s not for me. It was nice talking with you and I will still be looking at a news aggregate on X for a very few minutes a day, so feel free to reach out and I’ll still keep track of the more personal accounts and maybe say “good job!” or something.🙏🏻
“Charisma” in the case of X posters is much easier to pull off given the ability to seize on and exploit a few specious observations; the touch of Lucifer comes from the dissemination patterns and lack of intelligence inherent in the X platform itself. This will eventually harm us all as we ascribe to different hives of poor thought and contrived emotion.
Mutual “hopelessness” in the melodramatic sense is an invitation to self-serving nihilism that can become a folie a deux, but in the case where there is truly no existence of hope for a desired outcome, the only choice is pragmatic acceptance.
Sounds synthetic, but if ventured in earnest, one can get past the initial contrivances inherent in adopting a “realistic” mindset and move forward. If the other in this story chooses to languish when confronted with reality, that is a choice they must make, but it is not incumbent upon the rational person to follow an irresponsible course of thought.
The truth is always optimal in the long-run, but the road to truth is not always the most comforting.
I’m not a frequent citer of communists but Guy de Bord argued that the otiosity of life is a more modern phenomenon stemming from the lack of purpose derived from our specialization in production of items of marginal worth. I can see how this would intersect in modernity with what Schopenhauer is describing as a more eternal problem.
I like this quote you provided.
@curtis_yarvin I’m trying to play out the sequential game of what will happen as we tap into the buffet of documentation we have of this type of behavior. I don’t see a clean resolution, it feels like there will have to be a very dirty tipping point before change occurs. Think anti-Floyd.
@NurseYaYa8@MattWalshBlog You’re right, I did make a typo there, but neglected to change it as there were already discussions proceeding from the comment. Good catch.
@FischerKing64 This seems evocative of Tocqueville, but greater involvement at the granular level comes with its own problems. At least with this administration in power we benefit from the power of the purse to some extent even in ultra liberal places like where I live.
After taking a long break from X, I am now prepared to be a hypocrite around my exit, insomuch as I sort of miss just random posting.
I have spent at most 10 mins a day on X just in order to capture the zeitgeist of the moment, and that has suited me just fine. I still abrogate my prior role as a “reply guy” and will remain a tepid consumer of info and an almost non-participant in the “discussion”.
My dislike of X says more about me than about the platform, but if I sense am to go down a path of irresponsible usage. I will have to just go scorched earth and toss my account. Hopefully I can avoid using X as a place to intellectually “mark my territory” and avoid the comorbidity of pride that comes with such ill usage.
That said, as always, I welcome intellectual conversation and hope to gain that back without developing an unhealthy preoccupation with “likes”. That said, please excuse if my posts aren’t on the pulse of temporal novelties that are usually driving the conversation on this platform.
Once more, I acknowledge my lack of willpower and my hypocrisy in coming back.
@jameszimmermann I reply with this, only because I thought of it when pondering your wholesome question: “Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Thee” from St. Augustine
@moments_caught Yes definitely do so. I just have to get rid of the crass (to me) overload of big accounts, but I’ll still reply to smaller personal accounts when I get a chance.
I’m extraordinarily sick today, and this is the first time I could really post. What is funny, and anyone who reads this will call me crazy, is at night while I was suffering from the emergent stomach pains and nausea, my pain somehow meshed with dreams of X postings. Once the pain got profound enough I got up to vomit, (sorry unavoidable to describe for the story) , but I found that when I really felt the need to vomit was when I thought about X posting.
Thinking of X has reliably caused me to start to vomit more than ten times as of this morning.
I wondered if posting on X was bad or good for me. I’m suspecting my body or something else has answered. I am trying to decide how to go forward, I may just become a reader only.
