Bill Cowher shares the 3 things he told his 3 daughters - and his 53 players.
"Number one - choices and consequences."
"You can control your choice. But once you make a choice, it controls you...Just understand - with every decision you make, there's a consequence that goes with that."
Your choices and actions matter.
"Number two - it's about the people you surround yourself with."
"Are they people that are purpose-driven? Or are they people that are just trying to feed off of who you are?"
"I want people around me that are purpose-driven. People focused on doing something impactful and meaningful."
"And the third thing - nothing good happens after midnight. Nothing."
Three rules. A lifetime of wisdom.
Your choices control you. Your circle defines you. Your habits protect you.

Great for players to hear.
@dallasmavs coach Jared Dudley how to impact winning in a world that is obsessed with scoring:
🔒 Defend Multiple Positions
🛞 Drive and Kick Decision Making
🎯 What's Your One Outlier Trait?
Social media glorifies the 20+ point per game scorer. But most teams already have one, or two of those guys.
What they’re really searching for are the players who dominate in the margins: boxing out, sprinting back, diving on the floor, the second effort, the winning habit repeated over and over again.
Your value isn’t determined by how many minutes you get.
It’s determined by what you do with the minutes you've earned.
Because that impact creates trust. And that trust creates opportunity.
And the players who consistently help the team grow usually end up growing themselves.
@SportPsychTips Julius Peppers said, "Whatever it is that you do, do it with respect, integrity, passion, resilience, dedication, and gratitude. That alone will make you a HOF person."
Your character is what you do.
It's your decisions and your actions.
What an exciting day for my guy Antonio Hudson who Coach John Brady and I had the pleasure of signing to a basketball scholarship years ago at LSU. Congratulations to Antonio son, Ahmad Hudson 6’7 240lbs 2027 Duel Threat Football/Basketball player and his lovely mother on his great accomplishments an Commitment to LSU!
I met one of my best friends, Butch Pierre at a USL basketball camp back in 1974 when I was 10 years old. Butch later played at Mississippi State and coached at LSU. Butch and I remained friends for many years and decided to host the Jambalaya Hoopfest in Gonzales Louisiana where we present a scholarship to a student athlete selected from Butch’s Alma mater, St Amant. This year we are hosting 120 teams with another 30 teams on the waiting list. Childhood friends helping others. Congrats to us. Brian Jolivette
Jambalaya Hoop Festival! This is the third year of such a great event at home, my high school and other great venues in Gonzales La, Jambalaya capital of the world. 100 plus teams all age groups girls/boys AAU and travel teams. Brain Jolivette and his wife https://t.co/B6hgptoxsI
I have covered basketball at the college and high school levels for dang near 40 years now and don’t think I have ever seen a game dominated on defense like Tyrus Thomas & Garrett Temple did that night vs. Duke in 2006. Love seeing these clips of Tyrus!

I asked Tom Izzo about the viral clip of Charles Barkley defending his coaching style by saying people have gotten too soft.
Izzo: "Now we're supposed to just hug and kiss everybody... Accountability is going to be big until I leave."
What started as a Thursday night Bible study became something bigger for Alabama basketball.

Unbelievable Hall of Fame Coach. He sounds exactly like my Father. He wasn’t a coach but it was no debate, no negotiation, standards, and discipline. Had tears in my eyes listening to Coach Sampson. My father was raised that way. I passed it on to Joe, Josh and Langley hopefully they do the same!
Kelvin Sampson shares what separates good programs from great ones.
It comes down to 3 things.
"The best teams come from the coaching staffs that are the best demanders. There are certain non-negotiables."
"We're not going to sit down and talk about this...This is the way it's done and we expect this effort."
No debate. No negotiation. Just the standard.
"And those eventually will be called standards. So - standards, accountability, and then we've raised our expectations."
"Here's our expectations, and our expectation is probably a little bit higher than most people's. We don't talk about them."
The standard is how you operate every day.
"We practiced this morning at 6:00. Probably our best practice in the last 6 or 7 days. But that's because our standards are raising. Our kids are holding each other accountable now."
Then he said the line that defines a great program:
"That's when you know you've got a great program."
When the players hold each other accountable not just the coaches. That's when you've built something real.
The formula is:
1. Standards
2. Accountability
3. Raised Expectations.
A great team isn't made of individuals seeking personal glory - it's made of people who hold each other accountable and work towards a common goal
