SONY DIDN'T KILL DISCS. IT COUNTED THEM TO DEATH
sony's public case rests on one number: 85% of purchases, by its own latest count, are already digital. the number is real. the trick is who it erases. the data below: alinea analytics' estimates.
- the 85% includes every game that never had a disc at all. arc raiders sold 4.7 million copies on ps5, 100% digital - a disc version simply doesn't exist
- games where players actually had a choice? sony's own flagship ghost of yotei: 35% on disc. resident evil requiem: 28%
- that's part of roughly 70 million playstation discs sold last year, per slate. those buyers didn't disappear - they got averaged out of existence
so why execute something a third of your flagship's buyers still want?
because a disc is the only copy sony doesn't control. ~900,000 requiem players finished the game in under 10 hours and every one of those discs resells at a price sony doesn't set, earning sony exactly zero.
the 85% doesn't measure what players want. it measures what the store sells.
a disc can be lent, resold, or handed down to your kid. that was the whole problem.
We won’t stop voting with our voices and wallets for physical game media to remain🚀
If a few bloggers who don’t even play video games could make studios change their ways in game design, so can we.
Don’t listen to those who will try to discourage and demoralize you. You are the customer, you have every right to speak and to take your interests where they are better served.
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
Do not give in
Yes they have been silent on the outrage but remember back in late March 2021, they announced the closure of ps3/vita stores
It took them over 3 weeks to respond and the backlash was nowhere near what it is today
Sony’s push for ending physical game discs has nothing to do with “the future”🚀
✅It is about ending second hand market
✅Raising prices on a whim
✅Creating a monopoly
✅Ending game ownership
✅Eventually likely tying you to subscribe
✅Making you buy the same game multiple times when license end and then they suddenly come up with a “remaster”
So if you support cancelling physical games, you are active fighting against your own self interest, because the topic is far bigger than just nostalgia
Don’t let every self-labeled donkey analyst try to convince you otherwise. They are either:
A) Sony’s sock-puppets
B) Don’t want to burn bridges with Sony for future opportunities

Movies still come on Blu-ray, music is still pressed on vinyl and books still fill store shelves. But as Sony moves to phase out physical PlayStation releases, many gamers are asking why video games should be the first major entertainment medium to go all digital. https://t.co/FagoUG3JVU
The PlayStation disc story is making more national news, as well as more places taking legal actions against Sony.
Them trying to ignore their biggest scandal story in 20 years is insane
Mainstream media is covering Sony’s predatory push for a digital monopoly🚀
If music still gets released in CD, vinyl and cassette, movies still get released on blu-ray, books still printed on paper, why should games be all digital?
Sony is fabricating a false narrative that no one buys physical games when the Insomniac leak has shown to be false.
Do not fall for this
Do not allow them to discourage and demoralize you into think you have no power
Just few years ago they were bending over backwards over the stupidest things few bloggers cried about regarding gaming
They should listen this time, if you press hard enough
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
Not just Sony either which people need to understand. If Sony can get away with this then other game corpo's may try to pull the same thing. No, everyone must show them that physical media still matters, not an all digital future. Glad NBC spoke up! <3 #SavePhysicalGames
SONY ISN'T AFRAID OF YOUR PETITION. IT'S AFRAID OF STEAM
the 290k signature petition got silence. the cancelled subscriptions got a discount offer on the way out. but one threat had sony moving months before it even announced the death of discs:
players leaving for pc.
- in a push square reader poll, 45% of playstation fans say they're seriously considering the switch. another 15% say they already made it
- the deal is easy to understand: pc has three stores competing for your wallet and free online play. playstation has one store, $70 games, and an $80 a year charge to play online
- sony saw this coming. back in February
- months before the disc announcement
- insiders reported it was scaling back pc ports of its single-player games
- and at a company meeting in june, executives were asked point-blank how they'd win back players lost to pc. the answer: the next playstation won't just be an alternative to pcs
you don't wall off an exit nobody is using.
anger is free. leaving isn't.
It’s starting to feeling soon, consoles are gonna be pretty obsolete, because the whole point of consoles was🚀
✅Convenience
✅Affordability
✅Ownership
With consoles abandoning discs and nearing projected $1000 mark for next gen, what’s even the incentive to play on consoles? Exclusives?
There’s hardly any being to write home about in terms of exclusivity for the past 6 years, and the biggest proof is Sony ditching PC specifically for not bringing any worthwhile success.
Valve saw this coming and their Steam Machine is gonna be the gateway to PC gaming where you don’t need the know-how or high prices for a PC, yet still get the extensive library and convenience.
No loyalty, No tribalism
