Today was full circle moment for me. I remember listening to Kip Cullers 17 years ago & taking notes like a mad man on how he produced world record soybeans in awe of 160 bushel beans. Knowing where we are now is a feeling that’s tough to beat from a kid in the audience back then
Tar Spot found in Tama County, IA today. V7 corn. Record early infection for Iowa. No need to overreact with fungicide now. Still a good reason to keep scouting the rest of the summer and monitor progression ahead of normal VT-R2 app timing.
Showcasing the head start that early planting has so far. This is all from no-till fields (with aggressive trash cleaners) near the I-80 interstate latitude in Central Iowa.
This might b a little heavy for a Sunday morning but I’m very comfortable talking about this and with all the things that are going on and have happened recently I think this may be a good time to talk about it. Do u know why there is such a huge mental health and suicide problem in farming… 1. farming is extremely hard! Especially mentally and financially! ya basically we’re just putting a seed in the ground and sending up a prayer… 2. Farming is not just a business, it’s your life, your love, it’s your passion, I can say this because I’ve 100% been there, it wasn’t only farming that caused me to go though this, but also my side business, when you’re so freaking passionate about something, at times it will literally suck the life right out of you and question everything, unfortunately even why your here and if it’s worth living, I’m honestly a really happy person and never in a million yrs though something like this would happen to me, but your mind can be your worst enemy, but know this from my personal experience, and u gotta trust me on this, it’s always the darkest b4 the dawn, I wouldn’t wish this feeling upon my worst enemy, but …. I’ve also seen the other end of this, it’s a million % worth it to keep going, it’s extremely exhausting and will take a toll on you, there were days I wish I had cancer or something other then this, because that’s what it does to you, but it is WORTH going through it and not giving up! Now with all this being said, if you’re going through something, reach out to me, I know from experience and I can try to help, any hour of the day I don’t care, my phone is always on, I’m a dm away, you can get through this!!!!
Coolest fungicide trial ever Travis McCormick @ Ag Solutions, Coulter IA used JD Exact Apply 2 spell w/fungicide "Does it Pay". Imagery shows unsprayed areas almost perfectly Very little disease in this field, so all about plant health in this case. Check out the yield diffs!!
For the love of Yield and late standability, please demand to know Tar Spot scores when making seed decisions for 2024…even if you had a fungicide planned (the first video had 2 apps!). It wasn’t even wet and cool this summer.
DSM received a measly 0.04" of rain back on May 15. The two weeks since then mark just the third time since 1987 we've had a 14-day stretch without measurable rain in May/June (the others were in 2012 and in 2017). @NWSCPC is discussing the possibility of rapid onset drought.
Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day.
Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required.
Record broken.
Today’s drought monitor marks the highest % of the US on record experiencing drought conditions. 81.78% of the US has at LEAST Abnormally dry (D0) conditions.
This moves Oct 11, 2022 ahead of July 17, 2012. #Drought#AGwx
Our Fairgoers are the best. Officially. 🤩 Saturday, Aug. 20 was the most attended day at the Fair EVER.

While the 1st 10-days of July holds the ridge running storms, the full month does not show that. If this would be the true rainfall for the entire month, the last 20-days will need to be quite dry. Heat expansion also forecasted.
6 days left to spray your extend beans. Only low 100° heat indexes and humid as hell for next 10 days. Choose wisely. We loyal Enlist growers won’t buy the “oh I thought it wouldn’t drift” anymore.
