I found out yesterday that I share my name with a text-to-image AI. On Instagram I’m making cute jokes about being bad at art, but the existence of @bria_ai_ has deeply unsettled me.
We tell students that it’s vital to continue education after high school, but then we saddle them with debt if they don’t come from a well-off family. It’s time for real reform and relief—including President Biden using his power to #CancelStudentDebt.
Do you think when archaeologists uncover Disneyland in 3000 years that they’re going to assume we worshipped a mouse like he’s a deathless Greek god in the pantheon? When does media become myth?
The Trojan Horse Affair by @BriHReed and @HamzaMSyed is fantastic. It exposes so many implicit biases in white western thinking in a way that starts at the individual and expands all the way up governmental bodies.
Current British responses continue to do exactly that. They point the finger away from their own history of reporting to name-call Brian and Hamza’s targeted work as “shoddy journalism.” Here is a moment for cultural self-reflection and it is ignored.
One hot tip from me to u is that if you’re arguing with someone about some claim, but the proving or disproving of that claim would have no impact on their general position, you’re wasting your time and theirs. I like to ask people “if I prove this to you, will your mind change”
I guess I feel struck by having avoided something that so ubiquitous to millennial America. Like, are there 18 year olds in the US that haven’t seen any Marvel movies because they made a judgment and chose not to? 35 year olds who never watched The Simpsons?
