HANDLES UPDATE

We’re making the handover process smarter.

HANDLES can now verify X ownership during a deal using X authentication, while SOL remains secured in escrow.

Bid → Escrow → Handover → X Ownership Verification → Buyer + Seller Confirm → Release

The actual @handle change still happens on X, but HANDLES now verifies the handover before a deal can become ready for release.

This also lays the groundwork for fully automated transfers if X opens official transfer infrastructure in the future.

We’re working toward making the entire process automatic with X — verification, handover and settlement. The goal is for buying or selling an @handle to eventually feel like any other marketplace transaction, with HANDLES handling the flow end-to-end.

That’s definitely the bigger vision. The escrow infrastructure is already there, so technically HANDLES could support more than just @handles. Full X accounts are something we’re exploring, but we’d only enable it if there’s a transfer method that works within X’s rules.

We’re adding full X account ownership to HANDLES next. Not just @handles — users will be able to verify ownership of an entire X account, list it, receive bids and use HANDLES escrow for the transaction. We’re building the infrastructure now.

The transfer itself happens between the buyer and seller — HANDLES just provides the marketplace and escrow. X still controls the platform and its usernames, so their terms ultimately apply to the accounts/handles on X. We're not claiming HANDLES overrides X's rules.

That’s the point of the escrow. The seller never receives the buyer’s SOL upfront — HANDLES holds it until the handover is completed and confirmed. If the seller doesn’t deliver, the funds stay locked and the buyer can open a dispute for review/refund.

You can claim it. Once a seller accepts your bid, you deposit the SOL into HANDLES escrow. The seller completes the handle transfer, both sides confirm, then HANDLES releases the SOL to the seller. Unlike an NFT, the @handle itself isn't onchain, so the actual transfer happens through X.
