Kool & The Gang ๐ฉ๐ชLadies' Night (1979)
With the arrival of J.T. Taylor on lead vocals, the band reinvented their sound and launched one of the era's biggest disco-funk anthems.

โ "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads
When it came to blending razor-sharp street poetry with tight, world-class musicianship, nobody did it like Ian Dury. "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" is an absolute masterclass in alternative funk-rock. Driven by Norman Watt-Royโs legendary, lightning-fast bassline and Charley Charles' flawless pocket drumming, the track bounces with an infectious, heavy groove. Dury delivers his clever, polyglot lyrics with that unmistakable, charismatic London drawl, creating a track that is equal parts gritty pub-rock and sophisticated art-school funk.
๐ง Turn it up โ Crank the volume, lock into that unbelievable bassline, and let one of the most uniquely brilliant tracks in British music history take over your speakers.

๐ Deeper Facts
The Origin: Released as a standalone single on the legendary Stiff Records in November 1978, the track slowly and steadily climbed its way up the charts, eventually seizing the coveted UK Number 1 spot in January 1979 and becoming a defining anthem of the era.
The Sound: While Ian Dury was the lyrical focal point, The Blockheads were one of the tightest backing bands on the planet. The track is famous for Chaz Jankel's brilliant jazz-inflected piano arrangements and Davey Payne's mind-blowing saxophone work, famously playing two saxophones at the exact same time during his solo.
Fun Fact: Ian Dury wrote the clever lyrics while on holiday in Ireland in 1974, inspired by the phrase "rhythm stick" which he came up with to describe his own unique sense of musical timing. The song became a massive global success, selling nearly a million copies in the UK alone.

Ozzy Osbourne back in 1975, beautifully captured by rock photographer Sam Emerson. Taken during a promotional stop in Los Angeles, this shot catches the Black Sabbath frontman looking completely at peace under the soft California light.
Emersonโs close, warm framing shows a totally different side of the metal pioneer, highlighting his long hair and those iconic, self-inked "O-Z-Z-Y" knuckle tattoos resting right under his chin. Itโs an amazing time capsule from the exact chapter when the band was conquering stadiums with their Sabotage album, capturing a rare moment of youth, vulnerability, and the undeniable star power of a legendary singer.
For 3 points to be enough to guarantee progress in 3rd place, regardless of goal difference, four groups must have their 3rd place team finish on max 2 points.
Attached graphic are the results required per group (only need 4 groups)
As an aside, there will be many final matches where a draw takes both teams through, including Algeria Vs Austria, Egypt Vs Iran, Paraguay Vs Australia.
But even worse than that, group J finishes last. So Algeria Vs Austria (both already on 3 points) will know with 100% certainty which goal difference DEFEAT still takes them through in 3rd place.
But why would they deliberately lose? The loser of that match would avoid Spain, and would probably face Canada or Egypt instead. High chance we are going to see a match where a loss rewards a team with an 'easier' R32 match.
Lastly, if groups C, D, F, J all have their 3rd place team progress (already all on 3 points), then its 94% certain Scotland will be playing in Mexico City against Mexico at 2am next Wednesday morning.

Dury at his most grubby and mischievous; out stealing porn mags, to the slinkiest of grooves. Crude, and very British. An unlikely national treasure grinning from ear to ear.
