Impressed by Weston & Collin’s welds in our metals class! Only their 4th day on MIG welding and many students are nailing consistent, straight beads. Focus on comfort, consistency, and penetration pays off. Proud of this class.. watching them work is a blast!
Thanks to the generous donation from @McNeilusSteel we are able to have students practice laying beads ALL DAY! Thank you for the donation, I know my students appreciate it.
Understanding how to properly square wood is essential before cutting to size on a table saw, miter saw, or even planing to a thickness. The jointer flattens wood while the planer thins the wood. Then all your cuts afterwards will be consistent and square!

I started this annual award after meeting someone with an “Industrial Tech Student of the Year – 1975” plaque in his shop. He said it helped create a positive learning space. I’d love to find sponsors to turn this into a scholarship or tool fund—reach out if interested!
Proud to name Tyler Matter our Industrial Tech Student of the Year! This award isn’t just about skill—it’s about leadership, inclusivity, and helping others grow. Tyler’s made a huge impact these last 4 years, and any company would be lucky to have him. Congrats, Tyler!
In Advanced Metals, students machine hammers with precision, then learn MIG, Stick, and TIG welding… including pipe work. Shoutout to Gavin Bartel, who’s taken every class, toured training sites, and is heading to Local 6. Proud of him… he’s got a bright future ahead!
Taking things apart, fixing them, and watching performance improve builds grit and curiosity. Engines teach confidence and systems thinking. Proud of my class for crushing the compression systems quiz—great energy and sharp answers today. Industrial Tech is a blast!
We’re thrilled to announce that Byron Public Schools took 1st place at the Southeast Coop Welding Competition out of 29 schools. I want to say congratulations to Gavin Bartel for earning 1st place and to Xavier Burrows for securing 5th out of 169 competitors.
Advanced woods had another successful class putting together the nightstand. Many students take time with me after school to make it just right… Woodworking is an amazing skill and really teaches someone to work with their hands, which help with future endeavors in the trades!
Beautiful half blind dovetails done by Josiah in our Advanced Woods course. He is building his nightstand out of dark walnut and the drawer body is made of soft maple. A groove on the side will slide into their cabinet with a wooden drawer runner. Very well done!
