@TulsiGabbard@TheLastRefuge2 God be with you and upon you as you share this trial together. Your work at DNI was full of courage and integrity. Godspeed.
@RonDodson Yeah, I used to live east of the Cascades. Very Christian/conservative area. But the policies coming out of Olympia oppress the rest of the state, and even the Christian sheriffs, police, and mayors are limited on how much they can push back. Reluctantly, we moved to Idaho.
Olam
Currently, the Jewish people are largely a secular society. Much of the Israeli population nonchalantly shrugs at moral degeneracy, while others jeer in outright paganism. Similar betrayals are listed and dealt with throughout Israel’s sordid history, recorded in the Tanakh (Old Testament). The God of Israel has judged & will yet again judge His people for their treacherous behavior. But, paradoxically, He will also yet again display His lovingkindness and show Himself faithful to His betrothed by fulfilling His covenantal promises, which are unilateral and non-contingent.
In the following verses (not an exhaustive list), the Hebrew word “Olam” in relation to the “land promise” can be translated variously as: always, permanently, perpetually, everlasting, to the vanishing point, time out of mind.
Gen. 13:14–15, 17:7–8, 48:4; Exod. 32:13; 2 Sam. 7:13, 16, 24–26, 29; 1 Kings 2:45, 9:3, 5, 10:9; 2 Kings 21:7; 1 Chron. 16:17, 17:12, 14, 22–24, 27; 22:10, 23:25, 28:24; Isaiah 34:17, 60:21; Jer. 25:5, 50:5; Ezek. 37:25, 26, 28, 43:7, 9; Joel 3:20; Psa 48:8; 89:28; 125:1; 132:14; 148:6.
What has been foretold will surely unfold.
@TNTJohn1717 The article was very helpful. I may find it helpful to correspond with you further, but rather than keep this thread going, I'll reach out through DM, thanks.
I've read the bible scores of times and have a wall full of theological books. I've gained depth of insight by studying historical/cultural settings long before I started attending this messianic congregation. I've grown to love these people, but you absolutely nailed the Zeitgeist or milieu I find there. I'll read "Escaping..." soon. Thanks again.
@TNTJohn1717 Is this different material than "Why So Many Christians Are Confused About the Torah Today: A Rightly Divided Answer to the Hebrew Roots Movement"? and if so, how?
I'm a Christian in my 70's. I was moved out of empathy, born of the Holy Spirit, to join a messianic gathering after 10/7/2023. Having read and studied the Bible for decades, I appreciated the pastor's knowledge of the Old Testament and "Second Temple Judaism." However, although they say they are inclusive, they manifest the exclusivity and rigidity you have outlined in your article. The thing that gets me is that only about a quarter (or less) of the congregation are actual Jews. The rest are Christians who have fallen from grace because of the very reasons you've cited. They're good and loving people, but I find myself having to keep a constant (theological) guard over my heart and mind, as the friendly, subtle, inferred pressure is palpable and constant. Good article, thanks.
