I'm Gen X w/ little saved up. Personally, I would happily offer my financial security up as a sacrifice if we would abolish this stupid system (and not replace it with anything stupider).
I understand that the social security conversation is political poison. But I’m not running for office so I don’t care about that. Taking huge chunks out of the paychecks of young working Americans in order to pay for the retirements of older Americans who have a net worth several times higher, all to prop up a system that everyone knows likely won’t be there when those younger people are retirement age themselves, is morally abhorrent and economically insane. Everyone knows it, too, but we’re held hostage by elderly politicians who refuse to surrender power, and older voters who, as a group (with exceptions, obviously), simply don’t care all that much about the financial and cultural future their grandchildren will inherit.
I see Bear took LJ's advice and queued up behind Bruce Mitchell for a clear path.
Follow the Center, Follow the Center, Follow the Center, he knows the waaayy...
@USADocumented@Texas_jeep__guy@LynneB8898 That would be hilarious. Make a game of it where the kids are noisy right up until dad counts down 3, 2, 1... silence. Justification to report...thwarted at the last second.
@LaciMarieKnight Opportunities and problems are two sides of the same coin. The ungrateful see problems. The grateful are more likely to see the opportunities.
@IssanCARefugee@CrazyVibes_1 The reality is, malls were never meant to be residential. Plumbing and rewiring them would be a remodeling nightmare. Might be easier to create Gex X communities and outfit everyone with Meta glasses that render the community as an 80's mall.
@CrazyVibes_1 Don't forget the mandatory Meta glasses that renders all the old people as 80's teens with bangs to heaven and rad dudes with parachute pants. Because...y'know the old people kill the vibe.
@ThrillaRilla369 Yes. Got bonus pts if we extracted the brain intact. We perforated the sheath on the side as we extracted it, but managed to tuck it under long enough to get the points before it re-opened and spilled out like oatmeal. Good times.
@tanpukunokami From the moment that they arrive (and even before), they should be actively working on it. It was rude for me to speak English in mixed company when I was abroad. Same standard applies here.
@SunWeatherMan Hmm...if I sequester in a tsunami pod during the shift, the tsunami should carry me very close to where the new equator will be (need to make sure I have a motor or some paddles so I don't end up in the sea). Look for smoke around Western Canada/Alaska.
