While you can still get an AI stack virtually for free, for a meaningful enough experience you would have spent upwards of R200k for hardware that would give you both the performance, lower electric costs and RAM big enough for a large parameter model.

Artificial Intelligence just grows more expensive as a hobby, from hardware to software, to electricity costs. Our pockets are just not deep enough and options are running out; this certainly is the ball park of rich kids.
