I used to farm free-range chickens - thousands and thousands of chickens.

The farm had no fences, so it was impossible to keep the foxes out. Soon, with an almost unending supply of food and some nice coops in which to curl up and sleep, the foxes bred at an incredible pace and outnumbered the chickens.

The chickens were unable to fight back against the massive, unopposed influx of foxes, of course. They expected me to do it. But I didn't.

Now I farm foxes.

Oh, sure, the foxes fight amongst themselves and smell pretty awful, but that's how foxes are, so we have to accept it, really.

Unfortunately, the foxes don't produce anything of value. The chickens used to produce eggs, meat and down, but the foxes, well, no, sadly.

But I feel good that I have done so much for the foxes, even though they have changed my farm and lifestyle irrevocably.

If I had my time over, well, of course I'd install fences and ensure as few of the marauding foxes entered what is, after all, my domain, not theirs. But, alas, it's too late.

Anyway, the farm was good, while it lasted, so I have to be grateful for that. Fond memories. Fond, indeed.
