Breaking down President Trump’s most comprehensive comments yet about PREDICTION MARKETS:
—Full-throated endorsement of the view that prediction platforms are “financial markets” (not gambling) and therefore can only be regulated by the @CFTC , not the states. (This is already the Trump administration view. It’s being litigated in the courts.)
—Strong praise for the CFTC chair he appointed, @MichaelSelig. (Who also strongly backs the industry.)
—Attacks Democratic-run states like MN, NY, IL, that are trying to regulate prediction markets. (MN just became the first state to ban prediction markets. CFTC immediately sued to block the law.)
—Also slams @ChrisChristie, a lobbyist for the casino industry, who regularly bashes prediction sites.
(Notably not mentioned: Trump's social media company is getting involved in prediction markets. And Don Jr. is an investor in Polymarket and an adviser to Kalshi.)
@chicagotribune Easy for them to blame it on taxes when the truth is the food is overpriced and bland and the service is awful. Walk by anytime a game is not going on and you will see it nearly empty. Fool me once…
It’s not too early for the NFL is it?
Bears ‘26 regular season wins under 9.5 -120.
Bears had a few miracle comeback wins, had few longterm injuries to key players and were +22 in TO differential last season. Are those things repeatable?
What is the over/under on court cases involving prediction markets before the issue gets to the Supreme Court? What is the over/under on how many SC justices will go against Trump and his family’s investments in prediction markets?
It is a championship game so how many bettors feel a need to bet it and have action? Just once I would like to see writers, broadcasters, handicappers say “I see no edge at these numbers, so my best bet is i won’t bet it.”
College Hoops Power Ratings
Champ Game: Michigan -5.2 v Conn
Note that my process has valued UConn by 1-2 points higher than the books/market after St Johns beat them by 20 in the BE Champ on 3/14.
Hope everyone had a great season and we get a good game.
@RetroBayArea Was a special time to enjoy Bay Area radio. Among the highlights: the daily drug report on KSAN, Gene Mitchell/Geno Mitchellini and others on KMEL, and KFAT with the weekly shows from the Keystone Palo Alto. Radio isn't what it used to be.
Sark does do a good job of bragging in preseason about his players and raising fans’ excitement about the Natty to fever pitch. Unfortunately for him, games are won on the field and his coaching and especially his play calling aren’t nearly as good as his players.
NEW: Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian tells @Clowfb this team has a "different" feel heading into the 2026 season🤘
"I would say probably for the first time I feel like we have the top-level talent across the board position by position on both sides of the ball. But, yet, we also have the depth behind it across the board."
