ECONOMIC PRESSURE: The Shilling above Shs4,000/$ makes foreign debt costlier while simultaneously raising dollar priced fuel imports. Higher fuel prices increase transport, production and food distribution costs, feeding directly into headline inflation. The result is a dangerous squeeze: higher debt servicing, rising living costs, reduced purchasing power and shrinking fiscal space.

I received the Commonwealth Secretary General, Ms. Shirley Botchwey, this afternoon at Entebbe.
We discussed the need for Africans to unite around our common economic interests through the African Continental Free Trade Area and to trade with partners of our choice, rather than continuing to organise ourselves along colonial lines.
We also discussed a climate fund to support alternative energy sources such as solar, hydro and nuclear, as well as a youth aspirations fund to equip Africa’s young people with the skills they need. These are the issues we must address if Africa is to transform its enormous potential into prosperity.
Rwanda has been unanimously elected to chair the G77, the United Nations’ largest coalition of developing countries, for one year beginning January 1, 2027. G77 coordinates issues including trade, climate change, and economic development.
Somalia is shifting its security reliance from AU to Türkiye as international funding structures change. This has created friction with Uganda that contributes troops under AU. However, Türkiye's presence in Mogadishu counterbalances Israel's strong relations with Somaliland.
My sincere condolences to my sister, President @SuluhuSamia, her family, and the people of Tanzania on the passing of H.E. Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
The Government and people of Rwanda stand in solidarity with President @SuluhuSamia and our brothers and sisters in Tanzania as they honour the life and legacy of H.E. Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Representing H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni
at the 3rd Annual Regional Industrialisation Conference 2026, I delivered the President’s call for stronger Government-private sector partnership to accelerate industrialisation, deepen regional integration and drive sustainable economic transformation.
The conference, held under the theme “Unlocking Industrial Competitiveness through Innovation and Regional Value Chain Integration,” brings together policymakers, industrialists, financiers and private-sector leaders to advance practical approaches to industrial development.
Industrialisation is central to structural transformation, as it creates jobs, adds value to natural resources, expands intra-regional trade in manufactured goods and reduces vulnerability to external shocks.
Uganda’s industrialisation strategy is anchored in the national development framework, with the accelerated development of industrial parks as a key pillar.
The Kampala Industrial and Business Park at Namanve, covering approximately 1,000 hectares, continues to attract investment in manufacturing, logistics, food processing and agro-processing, positioning it as a major production hub for domestic and African markets.
I also highlighted the Sino-Uganda Bio-Industrial Park, covering about 619 acres, which hosts approximately 75 factories employing more than 12,000 people, as part of Uganda’s expanding industrial base.
Government’s industrial parks are designed not only to serve Uganda’s domestic market but also to supply competitive manufactured goods to the wider East African and African markets.
Priority opportunities include agro-processing, leather, textiles, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, steel, construction materials and logistics.
I also urged stakeholders to approach East Africa as a shared regional market, rather than as separate national economies. East Africa has a consumer market of more than 400 million people, while the African Continental Free Trade Area opens access to a market of about 1.4 billion people.
I reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening EAC economic integration, removing non-tariff barriers, operationalising one-stop border posts and expanding access to regional markets.
Achieving Uganda’s long-term 10-fold growth ambition of a US$500 billion economy will require genuine partnership between Government and the private sector.
Somalia is expected to begin exporting fish to China beginning September 2026 after the two countries signed an agreement allowing Somali fisheries products to enter the Chinese market duty-free.
He is the best candidate for the UN Secretary General position @UN. He comes with a wealth of experience. Above all he is a product of the Pearl of Africa.
