A distinguished pianist and singer, Rosa K. Jones served for 40yrs as the head of the music department at Hartshorn Memorial College. She was 1 of 2 Black faculty members at the school, also serving as president of an insurance company for Black women founded by Maggie L. Walker

Celebrating the empowerment and resilience of Black women this Women’s History Month with a nod to Hartshorn Memorial College. The nations 1st Black women college to award three baccalaureate degrees in 1892 and eventually merged with VUU in 1932.

Today, @vaunion1865 students @keishaundhardy, @kenzelpugh, @geekin.tre, and VUU’s CAAHC traveled to the White House for a Black History Month program with the Biden administration. The event featured influential Black men and young professionals in sports, politics, and academia.

Our 124th Commencement Ceremony takes place on May 13th. We welcome speaker, Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, President Emerita of Spelman & Bennett Colleges. She will be honored alongside the Honorable Lamont Bagby, Dr. John W. Kinney, and Mr. Tracey Maitland, to receive honorary degrees.
