[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

Pacific leaders showed the Pre-COP the reality of the climate crisis, yet world leaders failed to set a more ambitious agenda for COP31, neither for cutting emissions nor for boosting adaptation.

As the world hurtles to 1.5°C overshoot, UNEP warns emissions must fall 45% by 2035.

“We cannot afford another year of promises without action.” - Tasneem Essop

#COP31 must deliver action, not more promises.

Greater ambition must go hand in hand with fairness - and a full phase-out of fossil fuels.

On #Electrification Day at #UNGA, we celebrate the promise of clean, affordable power for all.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

It’s also a day to remember that how we electrify matters: powered by renewables - with no loopholes for coal, gas or nuclear - shaped by people, and backed by finance that makes a just transition possible for all countries.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

Electrification is only climate progress if it is renewable, just and people-centred.

The IEA’s new report envisages nuclear expanding sharply and gas-fired generation rising by 2,000 TWh by 2035.

#35by35 must not lock in the wrong energy system.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

Türkiye’s COP31 Presidency has launched the #35by35 electrification pledge. But electrification is only as clean as the power behind it.

“Diverse and sustainable energy sources” must not become a loophole for coal, gas or nuclear. It must be powered by #RenewableEnergy

🌀 Without that money, the Fund for Responding to #LossAndDamage could run dry as early as 2027, forcing Global South countries to keep picking up the bill for a #ClimateEmergency they did little or nothing to cause.

⏰ It’s time to #MakeRichPollutersPay and #FillTheFund! https://t.co/XDJnLTWK29

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

👊 When the richest 1% emit as much planet‑heating pollution as two‑thirds of humanity, it’s only fair that they #PayUp4LossAndDamage.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

💰 So what do we need to cover #LossAndDamage finance and other climate justice demands? Obviously, a global wealth tax on extreme wealth could easily raise around US$ 2.5 trillion every year.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

⏰ It’s time for rich, polluting countries to pay their fair share and #FillTheFund!

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

📢 So we ask: who caused the #ClimateCrisis? Rich‑polluting Global North countries!

And who still refuse to #PayUp4LossAndDamage? Also rich‑polluting Global North countries!

@FillTheFund

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

🚫⚖️ The International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion on #ClimateChange is clear: rich, polluting countries have binding duties to prevent harm and address #LossAndDamage. This means climate action and support for #LossandDamage are legal obligations, not optional. ⚖️

1/15. 👿THE DEVIL IS ALWAYS IN THE DETAIL🔎

⏰ Today at the 9th meeting of the Board of the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), matters related to resource mobilization (aka how to #FillTheFund) is expected to be discussed.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

⚖️ The resources are clearly available. Governments must redirect money from fossil fuels and war towards communities most impacted by the #ClimateCrisis.

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

📢#FillTheFund📢

The start‑up phase of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) under the Barbados Implementation Modalities has received 176 funding requests, asking for a total of US$ 2.8 billion.

That is more than eleven times the US$ 250 million currently available

[Climate Action Network International (CAN) @CANIntl]

🏭 In 2025 governments also handed out roughly US$ 6.7 trillion in fossil fuel subsidies.

Six of the world’s biggest fossil fuel companies are projected to earn about US$ 2,967 in profit every second in 2026.
