The North Westwood Neighborhood Council Homelessness and Community Health Committee is hosting a forum on homelessness with candidates for Los Angeles Council District 5 this Thursday at 5:30pm! https://t.co/tUwaxq4SFM
@Crime_is_Down I'm by no means an expert, but I think mental health is a much bigger cause of addiction and alcoholism. There's many people who get defined by their illness but have the potential to heal and help others if given the resources. Not an easy thing to create, but the need is there
@Crime_is_Down That's fair-- but I'd also work with a proud Yankees fan if they could keep their ideology out of the discussion and we could agree on the end goal. If their only contribution is suggesting to partner with a Derek Jeter foundation, it probably won't be productive
@CanesTigers35 Not a fan of 90s NYC crime efforts, but as you allude, I am learning that when a city really figures out an approach that works, it will need to be enacted all over to equitably address the magnitude of homelessness beyond just one city/region
@CanesTigers35 I think more importantly than who is how to make it that no one feels their shouldering a burden. Investors in many spaces would be apt to fund a sustainable fee-for-service that employs unhoused leaders to beautify public spaces, share talents, improve safety and find housing
@Crime_is_Down Just like starting at 'lack of housing' misses the root of the problem, I think it's the same for 'drug addiction'. There's a lot that leads up to someone becoming an addict and while social programs (includes LE) haven't effectively solved it yet, there's still a need
@Crime_is_Down I 100% agree that pushing ideology is a problem especially if you can't work outside it. Also labels can make others assume they know more about a person than they do. However, there are proud socialists who are in this work for real and are lifting up people who are ready
@CanesTigers35 Six months is a temporary fix if it doesn't lead to real housing/support. It is worth the investment if coupled with an effort to uplift leaders directly impacted towards finding permanent solutions. That creates sustainability and hasn't been tried on a major scale
@Crime_is_Down Many progressives are pushing that everyone has their basic needs met (which feels moderate since biblical times). There is evident corruption at all ends of this but it can't be at 100%. Do you think it's possible for good people to bypass the corruption to enact real solutions?
@Crime_is_Down I am getting close to sharing out my own attempt of creating a social enterprise/leadership project that works and I want input from all places on how to do this right-- that includes yours too but only if it can be constructive. None of us win if it fails too
@Crime_is_Down I really appreciate you saying that and actually agree completely w/ your frustrations. Short sighted solutions seem to always get the investment but a lot hasn't been tried and the toxicity on this issue is thwarting collaborations that could lead to actual progress
@Crime_is_Down Now remember I said non-asshole. Try it. I won't reply further if that's the only place you know how to talk from lol
BUT my point is we think that big on private enterprise and not the most basic social need. If you can dream up Amazon drones, think a little damn bigger on this
@Crime_is_Down@FightBackVenice Good thing to wonder. It's the first step to considering another perspective. Again, there's a divide here. It would be useful to get closer to the same page in a shared community if anything is to change for the better.
@CanesTigers35 There may be spoiled brats in the mix but they don't get to "crap out" on the atrocious circumstances that brought too many to one of the few nets our shared society put out for them. What's the net under these hotels because this one has a lot of big holes
@CanesTigers35 Yeah create a self sustaining program building leaders and things can thrive like you're claiming they are in those cities. There are people flying around the globe but we can't figure out how to make social enterprise profitable? It can be private. Just needs to be non-asshole.
@Lchapmangabriel Yes, my true colors are not having distracting conversations meant to go down a rabbit hole. Email me if you want to set a time for real discourse.
Hi, it's me in this video. I was not aware this was being recorded but I'm happy it can open a conversation. First off, not trying to fight you so pls leave your angry rhetoric somewhere with other useless actions. Frankly, if we could communicate there's room for solution.
