700 new people arrived at Manston yesterday according to Kent Police because of the petrol bombing in Dover, and the BBC reports that numbers have reached 4,000.

The max capacity of the site is 1,600.

This is a humanitarian catastrophe.

The camp is already overcrowded - and we saw hundreds more people arriving on coaches and buses, exhausted and spent.

We saw 13 coaches full of people arrive in just 3 hours.

Only one coach with a handful of people, including security personnel, left during that time.

The camp is highly securitised and isolated - surrounded by fences, police and security personnel.

Mitie - known for managing violent detention centres - runs the camp, while other companies such as MCT - known for brutalising children in youth jails - provide security.

Through one of the gated entrances to the camp, we saw a father walking around with his faughter inside a cage, unable to leave.

And we saw piles of blue bags containing the belongings confiscated from the detained people upon arrival.

They said conditions were “not nice” and that some of them were getting sick.

They said there are no doctors. No lawyers.

We asked them how long they’d been there: 3 days, 20 days, 30 days, 40 days.

Using a megaphone, we managed to speak to people across the fence.

We asked them where they were from: Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan.

We arrived outside the camp and saw people - men, women, children - behind the barbed wire fences.

Security guards ordered them to go inside.

The children ran away from them and crawled through a fence to be heard.

Mothers, fathers, children and babies from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere.

We went today and heard them chanting for their freedom.

This is a chemical weapon in an enclosed space with barely any ventilation.
