@DrVandermast That's it, though several other people on here have already laid out what's wrong with it (primarily the fundamental misconception of higher education as career training, but also being unaware of the various QAA benchmarks that monitor universities).
This one was filmed in November 2020 when there were still restrictions on how many people could be in my office, which is why we're in a room in the university library instead. It had a very noisy air conditioning system.
Whilst analysing the politics of A Christmas Carol, Dr Christopher Pittard looks to Dickens' other novels to highlight the authors wariness of revolution as a means of overcoming social inequality. Watch the course in full on MASSOLIT: https://t.co/otFLl7rH9Q
The great thing about these #totp repeats on BBC4 is that they often follow two from 1996 with some from the 1970s, and then everyone in their mid-40s realises how short changed we were.
My original plan for tonight had been to see *The Substance* at @No6Cinema, but what had previously been lower back grumbles have suddenly turned into leg pains making it impossible to walk any distance at present. Undone by body horror; take a moment to digest the irony.
I didn't actually know this, but it bears out my argument that it is the best adaptation anyway because it's one of the few that realises that Dickens is meant to be funny rather than Heritage That Is Good For You.
Did you know that A Muppet Christmas Carol contains more lines from Dicken’s original than most other versions?
And this alone is why it is by far the best version and a legitimate reason for me watching it with my year 10 class this year.
This is APPALLING. Deciding that English Lit degrees are “no longer viable in the current climate” is a disgrace - English Lit teaches empathy, communication & coherence of argument: what will you take from students by denying the opportunity to study it?

@jammywho21 The signal-man is caught within a technological system - not just the railway, but the communication network - that determines his identity (only named as the signal-man). The technology ends up merging with him violently.
Just had a lovely seminar on Dickens' "The Signal-Man" on our UG Gothic module. Topics included the first two pages, 'perspective', does the hyphen in the title matter, and is it, in fact, proto-cybernetic horror? All in all, yet another excuse to post this image.
@CAPittard The grave and gravy line makes me lol and could easily have been written for the Muppets.
Always watch out for the kids under the Ghost of Christmas Present's robe. If they're there it's probably a good version.
@LearNonsense I think he would too, given his fascination with dolls and puppets. I also think he'd find many of the more 'respectable' adaptations rather dull.
