🟢Local branch meeting tonight!
Upstairs at McGeogh's Bohemian Bar, 6.30pm.
All members welcome - there's lots to discuss and it's a great time to get involved.
Several political parties/MP candidates replied to our open letter before the General Election this year, indicating that they would push for changes in how the Local Housing Allowance/housing support is calculated.
As Ireland's community and tenants' union we are disgusted by Taoiseach Simon Harris's comments yesterday that the housing crisis is caused by refugees and asylum seekers. Read our response 👇
I wasn't illegally evicted because of immigrants
I was illegally evicted by an Irish man who wanted more than the 2000+ he was getting for his apartment he had owned for over a decade
This is simply divide and conquer to divert from the real issues. A government that has failed to deliver public housing, curtail the power of private landlords, and actually address the housing crisis.
Simon deflecting once again to let his own government and party off the hook.
They are the reason housing is in such a mess in the first place, not people who have fled here from war or persecution.
Our members face homelessness from rising rents and the lifting of the eviction ban Simon and his predecessors have actively encouraged. Our members who have been granted refugee status are given no wraparound supports to access accommodation.
More than 5 percent of Traveller households in Dublin are living in emergency homeless accommodation. “The private rental market is not a solution to the housing crisis, most particularly for Travellers. Councils are also failing to deliver.” https://t.co/Vkyc8s2UPk
