@WalshFreedom I'm an ex-pat living in Finland, where uni is theoretically free, supported by the state. The downside to that is that the state also decides which fields to support and how many majors in each are allowed. The limitations are real and predictable.
@MeidasTouch Cornell '88 (classical archaeology) here. I've always been proud of my time there, but my life was entirely separate from the frat system, which then was the largest in the country. Two different worlds. It needs to be dismantled from the foundations up.

@BillKristol No, he's Nero, the mad emperor of an empire built by his betters, the true nature of which is beyond his understanding because he can't see beyond his own rule. The real question is how long our Year of the Four Emperors will last, and whether we will find a Vespasian to rebuild.
@berlin_bridge As an outsider, this result from a miniscule backwater state seems more indicative of a survival of inbred GDR mentality, which is an issue of generational re-education. If the results translate into the west, then that would be another matter.
@joni_askola I think it's better to concentrate on how the democratic spirit survived under such immense pressure, to flourish again.
But, having lived in Finland for quite a while, I've never understood the sort of pop culture popularity of Kekkonen images and merch.
@KbillPutin666 One branch of my wife's family had to flee Vyborg after the Winter War, and decades later her grandfather went back as a priest to look for the family graves. The Russians had looted the church and stolen even the grave stones.
@SenBillCassidy You violated your Hypocratic Oath to do no harm by confirming this sick bastard, and acting as a Trump toady. You should be stripped of your degree and title, and live your life in shame.
@ewarren@MalloryMcMorrow The DNC hasn't understood yet that people want fighters, period. Supporting traditional middle of the road candidates simply won't inspire the wave.
@joni_askola As an American ex-pat in Helsinki, this time is even more painful than the first. His re-election and the surrender of the whole political system to corruption is deeply shameful. The only real hope is a radical counter-revolution.
@atrupar We were too lenient on the radical racist right, time and again, for over a century. It's time to hammer them down so hard they never rise again.
