In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, a book recommendation. Elder Marshall & @LouiseZimanyi introduce the concept of Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), the gift of multiple perspectives in the Mi’kmaw language, as we follow children connecting to nature as their teacher.
ECE Conference - Disruption and transformation: dancing through change in outdoor pedagogy, by Okanagan College. Jennifer Usher, from Medicine Hat College, and I will be talking about "In harmony with nature: exploring music and movement outdoors." https://t.co/qvdV60W24A
Invitations versus provocations - what is the difference? How does the outdoor environment offer natural provocations? How can the ECE disrupt the environment to provoke thinking? Some of the questions and concepts discussed in the outdoor project today.
Maybe by being open to the experience of wonder, modeling it, being okay with not knowing everything, and fostering a "lifelong curiosity about what is left to learn" would be a place to start in re-engaging with wonder (Melton, 2021. p. 16).
As we dwell within the pedagogy of teaching and learning outdoors - it is important to reflect upon the notion of 'wonder' - "To have a sense of wonder is more than being curious" (Melton, 2021)
How might the ECE re-engage in wonder?
@Facultyoutdoors Love these pictures & just talked about this with ECE students in Supporting Play Experiences this week...what are children seeing, thinking, and wondering about in their own documentation? #GCECE#ExperienceGeorgian
When children take the pictures
This allows educators a peek into what the child sees/notices in the places and spaces in which they play and learn. Outdoor documentation that is truly child led!
The power of changing seasons - what might children discover when being with nature? "The fall season offers children leaves to jump in and the discovery of frost on the rooftops and ice forming on puddles" (Dietze & Kashin, 2019, p. 221)
#RECEs: We recognize and celebrate your compassionate leadership, professionalism and dedication to early learning. You are essential to our learning communities.

The art of reciprocal teaching is “a process that takes the form of dialogue between children and adults for the purpose of constructing the meaning of a particular idea, process, or experience.” (Dietze & Kashin, 2019)

Thanks to all who attended the unveiling of the new sign at our Truth and Reconciliation Trail in Orillia.🧡
The orange rocks symbolize the lives lost at Canada’s residential schools, and the trail is an all-season reminder of the ongoing journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.
So important to be specific with our words. What does a "good job" mean?...in fact it means many different things but it is important to actually say what it is or looks like. Thanks for highlighting the importance of this :)
