The World Cup is an exciting time for licensees, bringing increased visitors, revenue, and activities throughout California. With this increase in patronage, ABC reminds all licensees to remain vigilant and committed to responsible alcohol sales and service practices.
Remember:
•Always designate a sober driver and never let friends drive drunk.
•Carefully check IDs to prevent underage drinking.
•Do not serve obviously intoxicated patrons.
When it comes to safety, we’re all on the same team!
ABC agents are proactively working to educate licensees about best practices ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to draw increased business to many local bars and restaurants. If you have a licensed establishment, agents may stop in to give you a flyer and have a quick chat about safety reminders.
ABC especially wants to highlight:
•Servers should carefully check IDs to prevent underage drinking.
•Alcohol service to obviously intoxicated individuals is against the law.
•Serving staff should be up to date on Responsible Beverage Service training.
•If you plan to celebrate, ensure you have a sober ride home.
Communities across California will be hosting matches starting May 30.
As we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, let’s keep gatherings safe. Always include a sober ride home in your plans. If you know someone’s been drinking, don’t let them drive.

Take time this week to pause for a moment to appreciate those who protect and serve, and recognize the immense personal sacrifice and dedication a career in law enforcement takes.
