Here is antidote. I own and live in one of these "starter" homes. I can afford a much larger house. But i won't sell this and put it on the market and buy a more expensivr property. You know why? It is 100% about the tax liability.

I am not the only person in this situation.

You eliminate homestead property tax alltogether, I'll consider putting this home on the market.

Or I will find a county that doesn't threaten my homeownership every year for park improvements

Personal anitdote: i have what some people might call a good "starter" home. Good for a small family that wants to own. I can afford a major upgrade. But i won't. You know why? My property tax will increase way more than i am comfortable with.
