“UK magpies’ numbers doubled in the 20 years up to 1990, but the widespread adoption of trapping halted population growth and has kept numbers under control since.”
@CA_TimB argues a crackdown on magpie trapping will harm vulnerable songbirds⬇️ https://t.co/Ip0ypYrWA4
Amazing news. Excellent work!
Further proof that public support for our farmers is strong. Foolish to pick fights with the men and women that produce our food.

🏆 We have some amazing local businesses across the Borders, and four of them have been recognised in the @CAupdates Scottish ‘Rural Oscars’!
Congratulations to 👇
🪶 Fine Feathers in Oxnam
🥩 Briggsy’s Quality Butchers in Jedburgh
🥘 The Blackadder Bar and Restaurant in Greenlaw
🍻 The Gordon Arms in Gordon
This is a fantastic achievement. There were thousands of nominations from across Scotland, which were then whittled down by a public vote.
Our local businesses are so important, so please support them whenever you can.
I look forward to welcoming some of the winners to Parliament in July, when they will take part in the grand final, competing against finalists from across the UK!
The RSPB's latest report is yet another example of the group pursuing its anti-shooting agenda.
Rather than relentlessly attacking game shooting, the RSPB should be welcoming the £500m worth of conservation work and £3.3bn that it contributes each year.
The countryside will be watching closely. Rural people will not forget those using the rural way of life as a political football. @CAIreland will fight this dangerous legislation robustly.
🚨Breaking: Countryside Alliance Ireland fight on!🧵
@CAIreland will continue to press MLAs to reject this unjustified and indiscriminate legislation at the next stage.
The case against John Blair’s Bill is clear. It cannot stand up to serious scrutiny⬇️
🚨🧵Breaking: @CAIreland fight on!
John Blair’s Hunting with Dogs Bill was today (26 May) voted through by the Assembly at its second reading, despite stark warnings from NI’s former Attorney General that the legislation would be devastating for rural communities 1/4

A huge response to this recent programme! We spent the day meeting men and women who depend on trail hunting for their livelihoods.
Since the programme aired on GB News yesterday, lots of people have responded to oppose the government’s proposed ban on the activity. Thank you!
@allianceparty@JohnBlairAPNI This bill is an utter disaster for the countryside and dog owners across Northern Ireland.
You should read the comments from John Larkin KC.
He argues that “dog ownership would be made more burdensome if not dangerous if this Bill were to be enacted”⬇️ https://t.co/W6HZo2YmrS

John Blair's Bill is not fit for purpose, and is an attack not only on the countryside, but every dog owner in Northern Ireland. MLAs should think carefully about how they vote today - the countryside will be watching. We will fight this to the end.

Countryside Alliance Ireland (CAI) has been at Stormont today, warning politicians and the media of the dangers John Blair’s Hunting with Dogs bill poses to not only the countryside, but every dog owner. We'll be fighting this all the way.
Thank you to everybody that has responded to this important story by completing our e-lobby in the last 24 hours 👏
People can see the government’s toxic culture war against rural people for what it is: a distraction.
You too can oppose the ban. It takes seconds. Link below⬇️
Trail hunting was introduced after the Hunting Act 2004 as an alternative to fox hunting. Labour pledged to ban the practice in its 2024 manifesto, but organisations are now lobbying MPs to oppose the move, warning it could put 1,000 rural jobs at risk.
