Disturbing scenes from Court today as kangaroo judge Mr. Baguma Emmanuel insisted on proceeding with the trial of Dr. Besigye in shocking violation of his most basic rights as an accused person.

Despite Dr. Besigye's sustained protests against being denied legal representation of his choice, the kangaroo judge proceeded to hear the testimony of the regime's principal witness Orlando Wilson, a disgraced political mercenary. We're informed that since the time Dr. Besigye eventually collapsed in Court as the bogus trial went on, he is still unconscious.

We condemn the shameful and dishonorable conduct of the kangaroo judge Baguma. All Dr. Besigye and his co-accused are asking for is a fair trial, before a fair Judge, or no trial at all! The Constitution must prevail!

Yesterday, Uganda witnessed one of the most dramatic courtroom moments in recent memory.

Dr. Kizza Besigye collapsed in court after a tense confrontation during proceedings that is politically motivated. The incident came after weeks of complaints from his lawyers and supporters, who say his personal doctor has repeatedly been denied access to him.

But before he collapsed...

He refused to be silent.

In a courtroom filled with tension, Dr. Besigye openly challenged the proceedings, questioning the injustice. And even after he was placed in handcuffs, he continued shouting:

"This nonsense has to stop! I will not keep quiet!"

Those words echoed far beyond the courtroom.

Because what many Ugandans saw was not simply a man standing trial.

They saw a man refusing to surrender.

Whether one agrees with Dr. Besigye's politics or not, his determination in those moments has become a powerful talking point across the country.

In my opinion, what happened in court was about more than one individual or one case. It was a reminder that resistance to what one believes is injustice can continue even in the most difficult circumstances.

This is what fighting tyranny looks like standing your ground even when the odds are against you.

One of the hooded JATT operatives who came with Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi to court, in full possession of some of the tools that are regularly used in torture sessions - gun, pliers, hammer, axe, knife, etc. Talk to past victims and they'll tell you how these items have been used to make citizens wail at the weight of torture- if at all they live to tell the story. These operatives even had the audacity to enter the court room, fully armed in this manner! That the judicial officer could not condemn them and instead punished Hon. Kivumbi with a long remand period is telling. UGANDA WILL BE FREE.

Ugandans should profile every one of them. One day, they too will have to answer for the pain, suffering, and injustices they have inflicted on innocent citizens. History has a way of demanding accountability. A day will come!

Twenty days after his televised abduction and subsequent disappearance, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi resurfaced today at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Butambala. He has revealed that throughout his illegal detention, he endured daily torture and sustained multiple injuries. The Court, as has become the norm, just remanded him to an undisclosed prison until 11th August.

Until today when its JATT security operatives drove Hon. Kivumbi to Court, the regime had denied knowledge of his whereabouts and even filed affidavits in court to the same effect!

We continue to stand in solidarity with him and all other comrades who remain unlawfully detained or missing. We remain hopeful that justice will prevail, and that Uganda will one day become a country where every citizen enjoys their basic rights and the protection of the law.
