Today, I received the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim D. Zungura, who paid a courtesy visit to me as he assumes duty in Osun State.

I welcomed his commitment to impartial policing, peace and stability, especially at a time when our state is working to fully restore post-election peace and reconciliation. I assured him that our administration is ready to support the police without any strings attached. What we seek is fair policing.

To consolidate peace and rebuild public confidence, I made five specific requests to the new CP:

1. Rebuild public trust in the police by ensuring that police conduct is professional, impartial and people-oriented.
2. Strengthen cooperation between the state government and police command, based on mutual respect, the rule of law and fair policing.
3. Reorganise the internal operations of the command and address units that have been compromised or perceived as partisan.
4. Ensure full police participation in the State Security Council meetings to strengthen security coordination across the state.
5. Release those arrested and held as political detainees, while putting an end to further politically motivated arrests.

Osun deserves peace. Osun deserves justice. Osun deserves a police command that enjoys the confidence of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

I extend an olive branch to all stakeholders. Let us work together to heal our state, rebuild trust and give peace a permanent home in Osun
