Regardless of how good you were this season, don’t ever underestimate how much better you can get in 8-9 months. With a strategic, precise skill development plan & a strength/conditioning plan that works on the right things, you can come into the new season a much better player!

Can you people make up your mind
I’ve spent all July at AAU tournaments and I think a lot of kids have the game confused. Basketball IQ Is definitely at an all time low.
The best player on the floor will make everyone else around them better. It’s not about dropping 30 points or highlight tapes. If you’re talented, that stuff will take care of itself.
High school recruitment is at an all time low right now so it’s more important than ever to know how to play the game the right way. Drive and kicks, advancing the ball, extra passes, communication, reading screen coverages, etc…
For the kids: Ignore outside voices and trust your coaches who are preaching to you to play the right way.
Basketball world tells you to point to your chest, to put 3 fingers to the head
Basketball social media tells you that you need to SCORE to get attn, you need to SCORE to bring value
Players
I get it. It’s confusing.
If you give great effort on defense and get crossed up or dunked on because you tried to take a charge as a helpside defender….you are one moment away from being on the wrong end of a VIRAL moment, so it’s EASIER to not really try, to not give that effort bc it’s safer
Real Life > Social Media
Players,
you are more than a BUCKET
YOU can IMPACT the game by
✅being a great teammate. Saying an encouraging word to a teammate who is struggling may lead to them hitting next 2 3s…that’s worth 6 pts
✅ playing great helpside Def…closing off a driving lane 5 times that could have led to 10pts
✅making the extra pass
✅diving on the floor winning the 50/50 ball
Avoid the “cool guy” mistakes
•Missing lay ups because your putting something “extra” on it
•Turning it over because you don’t want to throw the simple pass
•Missing open teammates to “get yours”
•Going through the motions in warm ups to look cool in lay up lines
The 8 Realities of a HS Coach
1. It will consume you
2. There will be critics
3. You are not in it for the $
4. There is no overnight success
5. You need a supportive spouse
6. You will not make everyone happy
7. You can’t want it more than the kids
8. It is always worth it!
If you want to be Average:
1. Let things happen
2. Accept mediocrity on your team
3. Succumb to peer pressure & don't hold others accountable
If you want to be Exceptional:
1. Choose to lead
2. Raise the standards for your team
3. Hold your teammates accountable for these
Being coachable is a competitive edge.
- Take feedback without flinching.
- Apply it without excuse.
- Grow from it without needing praise.
The best don’t avoid coaching; they crave it.
Feedback isn’t an attack.
It’s a gift.
Use it.
Character is Contagious.
The parents who cheer for every kid.
The coaches who lead with heart, not ego.
The players who hustle, help, and handle adversity the right way.
These are the people who shape the culture.
It’s not just about talent or titles.
It’s about character, and it spreads.
Be the reason our teams, schools, and communities get better.
