The Problem with this Queens initiative is it creates another layer of bureaucracy on store owners, cops, and assistant district attorneys to create trespass charges when what is needed is a return to actual punishment and incarceration for repeat offenders for the original crime of shoplifting.

A question for the DA is what happened to the five individuals who were arrested on the trespass charge? Were any of them actually sentenced to jail time? Probably not.

My prediction: This won’t have meaningful impact on the problem.

Another prediction: The mob looting events occurring with regularity in California will start happening here. We have already had several reported isolated incidents.

You don’t deter crime by an increasing tolerance of it.
