30th Aug has been recognised as the International Day for the Victims of Enforced Disappearances to draw attention to the fate of individuals detained, often in brutal conditions, in places that are unknown to their family and friends. (1/4)

Furthermore, the OHCHR has reported that there is a need for States to recognise the connection between enforced disappearance and lack of effective protection of economic, social and cultural rights. People living in poverty are more vulnerable. (3/4)
