Don't think I have had such clean wheat since good old Claire & Bravo days - even leaf 5 still has some GLA ! 20th September sown Bamford - pleasing result given the high Septoria pressure evident in late March/early April - appropriate fungicide programme & helpful weather
👍
Yellow rust (YR15) in Champion untreated with Fungicide @ T1/T2 is a sight to behold for mid-May (unfortunately plenty of varieties look similar !) - will be some huge Y.Rust focused fungicide responses this year & no doubt a varietal rethink next year 🤔
Aphids & BYDV starting to show now in late September/early October sown wheats here in the South that have only managed 1xHallmark spray. Will be some significant BYDV infections about & negative yield impacts in worst affected crops I fear 😬
Winter Beans on heavier/poorer drained locations showing significant Chocolate Spot infection now - early fungicide needed to protect new growth in next few weeks
Christina Clarke at #YEN2026 shows the value and of high yields from 13 years of YEN data - ⬆️ gross margin £/ha ⬇️ £/t ⬇️ GHGs/t ⬇️ N balance. @ADASGroup
@drkindred@ADASGroup Amongst all the doom & gloom amidst farming currently, YEN really is a positive project for UK arable farming to look up to - a real shame it is coming to an end. Optimising economic crop output (regardless of system) remains key to navigating the choppy waters ahead
@loosecollie Backs up our own findings - if arable land is not performing close to top 25% then cultivation systems/soil structure+fertility/rotations need thoroughly reviewing to highlight any potential for improvement or alternative rotational options...
Worms nice & active active following the "Regen" ploughing of a couple of grassweed infested fields on a farm that had been D.Drilling everything for 15 years + - no doubt enjoying some aerated soil & ploughed down Organic matter
1st signs of CSFB larvae seen today in this 24th August sown crop in East Hampshire - adult grazing pressure may have been relatively low, but we aren't out of the woods yet with CSFB !
@EwenMcEwen Will no doubt require "Sustainable Intensification" to get there on the basis that will probably only be farming 80% current productive land by then allowing for SFI etc/Re-forestation/BNG etc 🤔
A very concerning development as Italian Ryegrass is already becoming more problematic within arable rotations & could quickly spread via wind borne pollen to other areas - will need a zero tolerance management approach otherwise land will potentially become unsuitable for crops
How independent is the trials data that YOU use to make decisions on farm? Day 2 of the #AICC2025 Conference will start by looking at independent trials data produced for the exclusive use of AICC members #independent#agronomy https://t.co/nAvvqdIaR2
