When teachers provide a refuge from the “bad” in a student's life, they inspire hope and help students see that the past is not necessarily a prelude to the future.
A Trauma-Informed Compassionate Classroom
1. Create a safe space (emotionally and physically)
2. Establish predictability
3. Build a sense of trust
4. Offer choices
5. Stay regulated
Do not punish students for behaviors that are trauma symptoms.
How can we help children heal from trauma?
By checking our response to a situation. We can ask ourselves, Is my response to this situation helping the student to regulate? Am I helping to create a connection by the words and actions I am doing? Am I disarming fear?

The is not the "New Normal" (Olympia Therapy)

@ccisd We are all being forced to be vulnerable, to acknowledge our struggles and be real about our anxiety. With this vulnerability we can support ourselves & each other by taking a deep breath, and responding rather than reacting.

PLAY! During stressful times the best way to mitigate the impact of stress on the body is to PLAY! Play games, get on the ground & let your child lead the play, watch comedies, find ways to make yourself and those around you laugh!
