TOGETHER AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV)

As a member of the Benue State GBV Technical Working Group (TWG), the Centre for Community Resource, Health and Social Development (CCRHSD) joined other TWG members and stakeholders for a GBV Prevention and Response Sensitization held on September 9, 2026, in Ankpa Wadata Council Ward, Makurdi.

The multi-stakeholder TWG, led by the Director of Women Affairs under the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare (MWASW), engaged traditional leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, church leaders and community members on preventing and responding to GBV.

Key presentations included:

🔹 Understanding GBV: Adama Yusuf Esq. of UNFPA explained the different forms of GBV, including physical, sexual, emotional and economic violence, as well as harmful traditional practices.

🔹 Causes, Effects and Prevention: Selumun Comfort led discussions on the effects of GBV on individuals, families and communities, while Dooshima highlighted ways to prevent GBV.

🔹 Legal Framework and Reporting Channels: Mary Nguemo Dzuamo of Lawyers Alert sensitized participants on the VAPP Law, reporting channels and available support services.

The session also emphasized the important role of community leaders in speaking up against GBV, supporting survivors and promoting safer communities.

In her closing remarks, Magdalene Andoor, representative of the Commissioner, charged participants to become GBV ambassadors and take the message of prevention and response back to their homes and communities.

Chief Zaki Iortim Asema in his vote of thanks appreciated the organizers for bringing the sensitization to the community and pledged the community’s commitment to taking the message to individual households and working collectively to prevent and reduce GBV.

Ending GBV requires everyone to speak up, take action and stand together.

EVERY WEEKLY REVIEW MEETING AT CCRHSD IS A CHANCE TO PAUSE, LOOK BACK, AND SEE HOW FAR WE’VE COME.

Today we talked about the activities we completed in the various projects which includes the Community Case Management Program (CCMP), the Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Nigeria Project and also, The Vaccination Reminder Program. We celebrated our achievements and openly discussed the challenges we faced. Together, we came up with practical ways to tackle them.

We also looked ahead at the week’s priorities and tasks, making sure everyone is on the same page and that our work continues moving forward smoothly.

As part of CCRHSD’s core mandate to nurture and develop vibrant and competent professionals, three https://t.co/nOII6OpjIq. students from IPESS under JOSTUM, who were posted to the organisation to gain practical, hands-on experience, were formally introduced to the staff and volunteers.
A brief orientation was conducted to familiarize the interns with CCRHSD’s vision, mission, organisational structure, programmes, and ongoing projects. They were also given an overview of their expected roles and responsibilities during the internship period.

Establishment/Strengthening of GBV Watch Group in Abagena IDP Camp

Under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Nigeria Project, CCRHSD established and strengthened a GBV Watch Group in Abagena IDP Camp to promote community led prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The group will serve as a community-based mechanism for identifying GBV risks, raising awareness, supporting safe referrals, and promoting a culture of prevention, protection, and accountability within the camp. The initiative also strengthens the capacity of community members to speak up against GBV and connect survivors with appropriate support services.

Under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Nigeria Project, CCRHSD distributed VSLA materials to established Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups in Abagena IDP Camp.

The materials will support effective group management, record keeping, savings, and access to small loans, helping women strengthen their financial resilience and build greater economic independence.

Humanity in Action

This World Humanitarian Day, we celebrate the spirit of humanity and the shared effort to build safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.

At CCRHSD, humanitarian action is part of what we do every day. Through partnerships with APIN Public Health Initiatives, Notify Health, ActionAid Nigeria, and Sightsavers, we continue to reach vulnerable communities with healthcare, protection, GBV prevention and response, support for women and children, and essential medicines.

From IDP camps to host communities, we remain committed to putting people at the centre of humanitarian action... restoring dignity, creating hope, and building stronger communities.
