Today, with our partners at the Center for Children and Youth Justice, Chinese for Affirmative Action d/b/a Stop AAPI Hate, FORCE Detroit, and Health Resources in Action, the Vera Institute of Justice is filing a class action lawsuit to win relief for hundreds of organizations impacted by the DOJ’s federal funding cuts.
The Justice Department’s abrupt termination of over $180M in grants for gun violence prevention, victim support, and at-risk communities is not about efficiency — it’s an attack on bipartisan programs that save lives.
The loss of this funding means that CCYJ’s gun violence prevention work will be halted immediately, and they will no longer be able to provide protections for high-risk youth across King County.
