A7: I have tried to be friendly outside of the classroom. Eating lunch with a student in the lunchroom who chews with his mouth open and spills on his shirt is a good reminder of how young and immature he is ALL the time (not just in my classroom!) 😆#wasatchedchat
A6: I like to create “unusual” assignments. Students love trivia or strange/funny things. In Photoshop we turned selfies into zombies. There’s no reason to do a boring PowerPoint, etc when you can change it slightly to make it interesting and relevant. #wasatchedchat
A5: A In my Graphics classes there specific chunks of time to be on computer or not. The consequence if the students just can’t resist the distraction and are on computer during the lesson time: close it for 4 minutes. It has caused students to respect the rule. #WasatchEdChat
@pearlymae2 Ha ha. I think the best part of the trimester was saying goodbye to my previous super chatty fifth period class full of flirts and football players. They were my guinea pigs and I quickly learned that my discipline needs to be consistent and timely! 👏
A3: I teach CCA on the trimester, so I got a new batch of 3 classes this week. It feels like a do-over and I realize how much I’ve learned since Aug. This time around I clearly posted the expectations/consequences. I greet at the door and I’m learning more names! #WasatchEdChat
@duke_distefano Yes- VSCO girls are all the rage in middle school. I told the teachers they could feel free to confiscate the scrunchies if they are a distraction in class. 🙄 Then students will have to buy more. Ha ha
#wasatchedchat Christine Chappell. I teach CCA, Graphics, and Business at TMS. I’m having a really hard time thinking of something exciting... the FBLA club sold $400 worth of scrunchies in the last week.
@gless54@AuthorStuGibbs While at the public library the other day, I saw a patron wearing a T shirt with a funny message. It said, “Bookmarks are for quitters!” 😂 My idea of a great day is one where I can read a book from start to finish.
My son Andrew just got a 36 (perfect score) on the ACT test. It takes a village to raise a child and I’m grateful to @WasatchCountySD for providing him with such great learning opportunities!
We enjoyed a Spring Break family trip to Arizona where we soaked up sunshine while hiking to see ancient cliff dwellings.
I also completed another Education/Teaching class!
My son (junior at WHS) is studying for the AP Calculus (BC) test. He texted his older brother who is a freshman at USU and they commiserated. Then his older brother bragged, “We are saving baby sea turtles in MY math class!” 😳 Complex story problems... math teachers are amazing!
My boys just got to meet their FAVORITE author Brandon Sanderson (at Costco!) He autographed a stack of their well-read books and said, “Thanks for reading! It makes it possible for me to write what I love.” #wasatchreads ❤️📚
I gave my nephews a bunch of books that I found at the thrift store. They are “reading to each other” at ages 3 and 5! No one can resist a good book! ❤️📚 #wasatchreads
My son is riding the shuttle home from college today (Spring Break.) He texted to ask me for suggestions on how to pass the time... of course I said, “Read a book!” #wasatchreads
This boy is gobbling up The Stormlight Archive Series by Brandon Sanderson. It’s no wonder that his Lexile score is 1496 (college reading level) and he’s only 12. 😂 #wasatchreads
#WasatchEdChat Again, fill your life and your living room with books. Talk about them at dinner. Suggest books to each other. Share books. Get magazine subscriptions. Here is a photo of my daughter reading a new (reference!) book amidst the chaos on Christmas morning.
