Airbus has redesignated the Eurodrone as the Airbus U950 Eurodrone under a new naming system for its uncrewed aircraft portfolio, as the multinational MALE drone program moves ahead without France following Paris’ decision to drop its planned procurement earlier this year.
Even as Ramstein Flag continues at full scale, NATO Allied air forces remain ready to respond to real-world events at a moment's notice. Portuguese 🇵🇹 F-16s and French 🇫🇷 Rafale fighters were scrambled on separate occasions as part of NATO Air Policing missions over the Baltic region.
Just before the weekend, @fap_pt F-16s conducted an interception to identify and monitor Russian 🇷🇺 aircraft operating near Baltic airspace, contributing to the security and surveillance of NATO's eastern flank.
At the start of this week, @Armee_de_lair Rafales intercepted and identified an uncrewed aerial system (UAS) crossing into Latvian airspace from the east. Following identification and in accordance with established procedures, the drone was engaged and destroyed. The aircraft subsequently conducted an additional surveillance mission along the eastern border of the Baltic states.
These missions highlight the readiness and vigilance of NATO Air Policing forces, demonstrating the Alliance's ability to train, deter and defend simultaneously.

📍Lithuania | Interception of 6 🇷🇺 aircrafts within the Baltic air space 🚨✈️
⚡️ Scramble of two 🇫🇷 Rafale aircraft of the Baltic Air Policing 71 detachment, based in Šiauliai 🇱🇹, in order to escort 🇷🇺 aircrafts operating in the Baltic responsibility area.
👀 Visual identification of the aircrafts: three fighters (Su-35, Su-34 and Su-24), one Il-76 transport aircraft, and two reconnaissance aircrafts (An-12 and An-30).
🔍 The situation was monitored by our pilots without further escalation.
🛡️ As part of the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission, 🇫🇷 Rafale aircraft provide daily surveillance and defence of the Baltic airspace 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 alongside their allies.

An exciting step for European sovereignty at ILA Berlin: "Team Gen 6", a group of eight leading German defence and aviation companies signed a strategic positioning paper. The German and French governments have announced a realignment of the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS). While the development of the overarching 'System of Systems' is progressing as before, the 6th-generation fighter aircraft integrated within it requires a new, agile industrial setup.
Together with @AUTOFLUG, @DiehlDefence, @HENSOLDT, @Liebherr, @MBDADeutschland, @MTUAeroEng, and @RohdeSchwarz, we at Airbus Defence and Space stand ready to take on the responsibility for a 6th-generation fighter aircraft. Closely integrated with the German partners, the Spanish industry is also forming up with the companies Indra, Airbus, @Grupo_Oesia, GMV, @ITPAero, and Sener.
As Team Gen 6, we have the capabilities and the capacities. Now, we are looking for close alignment with policymakers and the Air Force to drive forward a superior European air combat system for collective security.
☢ How France’s new nuclear doctrine strengthens NATO ?
In a new analysis for the @BulletinAtomic, @Etienne_Marcuz, Associate Fellow at FRS, examines how France’s concept of « forward deterrence » complements US extended deterrence and strengthens the Alliance’s overall nuclear posture.
The article explores the political and operational implications of this shift, the role of European partners, and the coordination challenges ahead.

@jdomerchet Les chasseurs développés sur plusieurs décennies ne sont pas des objets figés dans leur cahier des charges initial. Dans le cas du SCAF, on était encore très loin d’un système totalement défini.

Sir Keir Starmer is considering delaying or scrapping the Royal Navy’s future class of guided-missile destroyers in his defence investment plan.
Multiple sources told @Telegraph that the new class of Type 83s is now at risk because the Treasury has refused to fund the scheme on its existing timetable.
The Type 83s were due to enter service between 2035 and 2038 and replace the Type 45 destroyer, one of which is currently deployed to the Middle East.
It’s the latest major defence procurement project to face peril in the DIP, alongside the nuclear-capable F-35As, the next-generation fighter jets in the GCAP programme, and Ajax.
Ministers will prioritise drone technology and other more pressing concerns over multibillion major projects.
France has ordered a multi-layer version of SAMP/T NG, pairing long-range Aster interceptors with VL MICA for lower-tier air defense. The architecture could later integrate other effectors, with Mistral named by the DGA as an option.

Scoop from Berlin: Lockheed Martin has formally offered its #HIMARS artillery system to #France, with company officials pledging an 18-month delivery time if Paris puts them on contract, according to sources close to the matter. https://t.co/TnRK92GFoN
