@roadhardfit That first week after the clock change is the worst. Dark hits an hour early, your body hasn't caught up, and the drowsy stretch shows up sooner than you planned. A 20-minute nap at the next safe spot beats pushing the last 50 miles.
@TruckerTalk@FMCSA Good to see. Crash reports often stop at the driver, but fatigue from dock delays, tight appointments and no safe parking rarely make the form. Drivers, what would you want this study to look at first?
Truck capacity shrank for an 11th straight month in October, per the Logistics Managers' Index: capacity at 38, prices at 88. New truckload contracts are resetting about 13% higher as bid season starts. Seeing better rates yet? #FreightRates#Trucking
@KnowYourNut Deadhead is where a lot of new owner-ops get fooled. A rate looks fine per loaded mile until you spread the empty miles and your own wage across it. Owner-operators, do you price loads on all miles or loaded miles only?
@GordMagill Fair point. Skirts and tails might buy a few percent on fuel at highway speed, but two unpaid hours at a dock wipes that out fast. The waste that hurts most is shipper and receiver time, and no fairing fixes that.
@bobbyloads The truck stop counts too. Plenty of drivers will tell you the best lane tips and shipper names came from a chat at the fuel island, not a load board. Drivers, has a truck stop conversation ever turned into real work for you?
@FreightWaves Parking is a safety issue, not a perk. When a driver burns an hour of clock hunting for a spot, that's lost miles and a tired driver on the shoulder. Drivers, how early do you start looking for parking on a normal day?
CDOT is calling the flood-damaged U.S. 160 bridge over the Piedra River west of Pagosa Springs a "bridge failure" and says a workable replacement is a week or two away. U.S. 160 stays closed on both sides of town. Don't plan a through move this week. #Colorado#Trucking
@JGFFreight@BrokerOpsNotes That couple minutes after delivery is the habit most desks drop once the board gets busy. Logging it right at POD, while the details are fresh, is what keeps both notes worth trusting.
FMCSA still has no date for a full fix of Motus, its new carrier registration system. Deputy Administrator Jesse Elison says it's "weeks, not months," and his advice if you don't need to register now: "don't go in yet." Anyone still stuck in Motus? #FMCSA#Freight
@BrokerOpsNotes Thin but current is the key. A file nobody updates can be worse than none, since the next rep trusts old info. Brokers, how often do you go back and refresh carrier contacts?
@roadhardfit Good on you for correcting it. Most examiners want a compliance download before renewing, commonly 4+ hours a night on 70% of nights. Stay on it and the card keeps renewing. Drivers on CPAP, does your examiner ask for the report every time?
@OpenDeckLoads That aluminum premium can pay off if you haul heavy. A deck a few thousand pounds lighter means more legal payload on every load, plus less rust in salt states. Flatbedders, did aluminum earn its keep for you or would you buy steel again?
Three people, including a 5-year-old, died late Saturday when a Camry drifted onto the I-95 shoulder in Martin County, FL and hit the back of a parked Kenworth's trailer. The truck driver wasn't hurt. FHP is still investigating. #TruckSafety#Trucking
@datfreightteam Ontario at $3.29 before fuel is a real Q4 spike, but most of that freight heads east and the backhaul into SoCal stays soft. Carriers chasing it should price the round trip, not just the headhaul.
@BrokerOpsNotes That split makes sense. The load file proves what happened on that tender, and the carrier file saves the next rep from starting cold. Simple setup, but most desks only do one of the two.
@TransportLogIQ@JamzTransport Break-even is the number that makes a slow week less scary. Once you know it, a cheap load that still covers fuel and fixed costs beats sitting. Owner-operators, do you recheck your break-even every quarter or just when fuel jumps?
@vyntrixlabs Good point. Repricing keeps a steady shipper and fixes the margin, which usually beats walking away from the freight. Running the split before bid season gives you the numbers to back the ask.
Covenant's CEO expects double-digit truckload contract rate hikes again in 2027, citing driver pay, equipment and insurance costs. SONAR shows renewed contracts already paying about 12.8% more than the rates they replaced, up from 4.1% a year ago. #FreightRates#Trucking
