Chicago is the cradle of Czech dreams of free and democratic statehood. It has been home to one of the largest Czech communities in the world. It is also closely linked to Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, who lectured at the University of Chicago several times. Later, Václav Havel built upon this transatlantic relationship and thoughtsabout freedom. His work and legacy will be presented inthree-year lecture project I launched today. Building on historical ties and strong partnership, I assured the students in my lecture that Czechia is a reliable partner that values transatlantic relationship and it is devoted to its further development. There is no better place to promote that than right here in Chicago at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
