Total government spending on education is closer to 10% (I think about 8%) but the vast majority is state and local. And that matters here because the argument is fix it by giving more control to the states.

Not sure giving them more power resolves much.

Eliminating the Dept of Education won’t fix America’s education crisis, but it will almost certainly deepen it.

I want to understand you to mean that the “actual economy” isn’t strong from the working class POV. We need to center better measures of economic health.
